The Work You Will Do:
DISTRICT MAINTENANCE ENGINEER/DISTRICT MAINTENANCE
This position oversees the District Maintenance Program and leads all aspects of emergency response as the District Emergency Coordinating Officer for state roads, bridges, and facilities. It ensures the implementation of all relevant state policies, procedures, and statutes related to maintenance. The role also involves daily communication and coordination with public agencies at the federal, state, county, and city levels.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the District Director of Operations, plan and administer the District Maintenance Program. Administer district wide programs for the maintenance and operation of roadways and bridges, rest areas, weigh stations and mobile equipment in accordance with the policies, procedures and rules of the Florida Department of Transportation. Maintenance activities are accomplished through the direct or indirect supervision of in-house positions, Department of Corrections contracts, private sector contracts and agreements with local governments.
Administer, supervise and manage the resources (e.g. budget, manpower, equipment, etc.) of the maintenance cost centers assigned to District 6. This includes vendor invoice/warrant approval.
Ensures that the District Bridge Inspection program meets Department's objectives in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Meets with local government officials, elected officials, consultant engineers and private citizens regarding maintenance and permit issues. Assures that all maintenance personnel appropriately communicate with and maintain good working relationships with public officials, news media and the public; responds to requests and needs as appropriate in a courteous, professional and respectful manner.
Responsible for updating and implementing the District Maintenance Business Plan.
Assists in or manage coordinating activities within the district as needed during natural disasters or other emergency events.
Coordinates the exchange of information between District 6, the Office of Maintenance, the Central Office and other Districts. Serve on statewide committees as a representative of District 6 and/or peer groups.

- Skill in managing and directing the use of budget allocations and rate including the ability to analyze budgetary and financial data.

- Skill at interpreting and implementing rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Skill at providing guidance and direction to subordinates and organizational units, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance measures
- Skill in working with internal and external customers in a tactful and courteous manner.
Ability to:
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple work assignments.
- Ability to understand and use information technology to manage and manipulate data to support activities such as reporting, summarizing, analyzing, planning, measuring performance and decision-making in an effective, efficient manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:
- This position requires registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance to Florida Statute, Chapter 471.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
- During a declared emergency event, the incumbent will be required to assist the District as needed.
