Join our summer camp team as a Diverse Abilities Summer Camp Counselor! In this dynamic role, you will create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment for children with diverse abilities. Your enthusiasm and dedication will empower children to explore new activities, build confidence, and develop essential life skills. This paid position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact while gaining valuable experience in childcare, special education, and camp programming.

Camp Dates: June 22-July 3 and August 10-21, 2026

Hours: Monday-Friday up to 40 hours per week

Duties

  • Foster a welcoming and safe environment by supervising children during camp activities, ensuring their well-being at all times
  • Assist children with diverse abilities in participating in recreational, educational, and creative activities tailored to their needs
  • Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive interactions and social development among campers
  • Support children with personal care routines and assist with mobility or communication needs as required
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and execute inclusive activities that encourage teamwork, self-expression, and skill-building
  • Maintain clear communication with parents or guardians regarding camper progress and any concerns that arise
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols by conducting regular safety checks, administering basic first aid when necessary, and reporting incidents promptly

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with children in settings such as daycare, tutoring, babysitting, or special education is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques
  • Certification in first aid and CPR and First Aid (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to adapt activities for children with varying needs
  • Compassionate attitude with excellent communication skills and patience when working with children of all abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team dedicated to inclusive education and recreation
