DIVERSION COURT COORDINATOR

The purpose of the class is to manage the daily operations, case flow, and team coordination for diversion court programs, acting as a liaison between the judge, attorneys, treatment providers, and participants to ensure compliance with program goals, track progress, handle data, manage budgets, and facilitate recovery-focused alternatives to incarceration, requiring strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Management & Operations: Oversees daily operations, develops policies, manages budgets, handles grants, and ensures program sustainability.
  • Liaison & Communication: Serves as the primary contact for the judge, court staff, law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and treatment providers.
  • Case Management & Monitoring: Screens participants, tracks progress, coordinates assessments, implements service plans, and monitors compliance with court orders.
  • Data & Reporting: Collects, analyzes, and reports program data for quality assurance, performance measures, and statistical reporting.
  • Team & Stakeholder Coordination: Facilitates team meetings, coordinates interdisciplinary training, and builds community relationships.
  • Participant Support: May provide direct support, administer drug tests, visit participants, and link them to community resources.

  • Court Procedures: Thorough understanding of court operations, legal documents, and relevant statutes.
  • Substance Abuse: Knowledge of substance abuse treatment, signs, symptoms, and therapeutic principles.

  • Data Management: Strong ability in data collection, analysis, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Problem-Solving: Creative problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with standard office software, computers, and potentially specialized court systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Manage the daily operations of the diversion courts
  • Manage the cases of all active participants in the diversion court programs to include communicating with participants regarding their success or failures within the programs
  • Collect funding and maintain bank accounts for diversion court operations. This duty includes the management of the budgets of the diversion courts.
  • Coordinate with all diversion court team members to inform them of all diversion court updates as well as planning for regularly scheduled court team meetings
  • Liaison between the diversion court judges, attorneys, treatment providers, and participants to ensure compliance with program goals
  • Facilitate recovery-focused alternatives for diversion court participants.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree preferred in criminal justice or social sciences. Mental health or substance abuse disorder treatment provider experience is not required but is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skill in handling or using machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones, or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner.
  • Skill in using basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.
  • Skill in reading simple sentences, instructions, or work orders; writing simple sentences and completing simple job forms; and employing simple sentences using basic grammar.
  • Skill in doing clerical, manual or technical tasks prescribed by standard practices, but which may require computation, the use of several procedures and the use of independent judgments with obvious choices.
  • Ability to gather, organize, analyze, examine, or evaluate data or information; may prescribe action based on such data or information.
  • Ability to give information, guidance, or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressures.

Reasoning Ability, Mathematical and Language Skills:

Technically savvy and experience with various systems. Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in order to meet short deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent listening and interpersonal skills. Must have the adaptability and flexibility to change dependent upon the environment. Must be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and have the ability to exhibit professional maturity.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Physical Demands:

The work is sedentary work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Visual Acuity 3: Visual Acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations.
  • Visual Acuity 4: Have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
  • Visual Acuity 5: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Work Environment/Unavoidable Hazards:

Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
Extreme noise levels,
Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
Violence.
