ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Schedule/Hours: M – F 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week)

This position is responsible for:

Plans, coordinates, and monitor all legal information coming into the HR Department; Prepares legal documents, performs legal research, reads and interprets legal documents; communicates with attorneys and other professionals; responds to inquiries from Corps, Territorial Headquarters, Divisional Headquarters officers and employees and outside sources regarding EEOC and legal actions, interpretation of Territorial Minutes, legal documents; researches and analyzes files and correspondence for Divisional Finance Board review, approval and recommendation; processes legal documents to and from the Territorial Legal Secretary, attorneys and the Corps. Ensures the legal procedures are in compliance with governing legal and Salvation Army regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Acts as first point-of-contact and serves as liaison among attorneys, other professionals, and Corps officers for the timely and accurate processing of legal documents and for exchange of information.

Advises and responds to inquiries from Corps officers, attorneys, and other interested professionals regarding EEOC, civil or criminal cases and other legal processes; reviews and interprets legal documents for HR and other Divisional personnel.

Develops and maintains an electronic case filing system for civil actions; receives, files and tracks notices, pleadings, complaints, and other legal documents arising from civil actions to which The Salvation Army is party.

Supervises and monitors the processing of all documents and correspondence from attorneys or other professionals regarding any matter arising from an HR legal issue, including forwarding to Territorial Headquarters; ensures compliance with deadlines required by these documents; ensures same are filed timely and accurately; ensures they are scanned and archived routinely.

Ensures the timely preparation of reports for the Divisional Finance Board as directed by the HR Director; research files as requested.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.

Knowledge of effective and efficient recordkeeping practices and procedures.

Knowledge of the English language including proper grammar and punctuation.

Knowledge of basic mathematics, accounting or bookkeeping practices and procedures.

Knowledge of accepted practices and techniques that are involved in budget and report preparation and/or recordkeeping.

Ability to gather, compile, and assemble information into a final product for correspondence, records, reports, etc.

Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.

Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment with limited supervision.

Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines.

Ability to prepare spreadsheets and to maintain computer databases.

Ability to maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items can be retrieved in a timely manner.

Ability to build and maintain effective and professional relationships with employees at Territorial Headquarters and throughout the Southern Territory.

Ability to build and maintain effective and professional relationships with attorneys.

Ability to travel throughout the Division to conduct department trainings and employee investigations.

Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the department.

Ability to read and interpret a wide variety of legal documents and interact with attorneys

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Work is performed in both a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts as well as outdoors where there are changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree Human Resources or related degree; AND

  • Five to seven years progressively responsible experience performing Complex Employee Relations in an office environment, with at least two years management experience; OR

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
