Are you a seasoned trainer with a passion for strengthening public safety and developing others? The Montana Department of Corrections is seeking a DOC Training Coordinator who is passionate about elevating department skills and abilities through high‑quality staff development. In this role, you will train Montana State Prison staff across basic, in‑service, and advanced professional courses while working closely with MSP Management and staff instructors to ensure the DOC Training Plan is implemented. Your work will directly contribute to the excellence of our personnel by ensuring consistent delivery of department‑ and position‑specific training that supports continuous learning and professional growth.
As a key member of our training team, you’ll collaborate with fellow Trainers, Management, and the DOC Training Manager to develop, coordinate, and deliver curriculum that remains consistent across DOC facilities, bureaus, and divisions. Beyond internal training, this role also extends its impact to external partners, including Judges, Youth Courts, Tribal Agencies, county adult and juvenile detention centers, regional prisons, and various Law Enforcement agencies. QUALIFICATIONS
The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Education, Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration or another related field that can be directly associated to the Corrections field, or Training.
Individuals with prior course instruction experience, Instructor Development certification, and membership in an advanced training team (such as SRT, STG, etc.) are exempt from the degree requirement.
Experience in, or with a Field Training Officer (FTO) program preferred.
Prior Probation, Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Detention experience is highly sought after
Demonstration of competencies may be used to offset some of the education and experience requirements.
Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
