Position Summary
The Donor Engagement Manager is a key member of The Sophia Way Development Team,
responsible for connecting individuals, volunteers, and community partners to the organization's
mission of providing shelter, safety, and stability for women experiencing homelessness.
This position blends two vital functions:
1. Volunteer Coordination and Management – engaging, training, and stewarding
volunteers as active partners in our mission.
2. Donor and Corporate Engagement – cultivating relationships with individuals, small
donors, and corporate supporters through volunteer experiences, outreach, and event
sponsorships.
By fostering relationships that begin with engagement and grow into sustained giving, this role
strengthens The Sophia Way's development pipeline and deepens community investment in our
programs.

Primary Responsibilities

Volunteer Engagement and Management
 Coordinate recruitment, screening, training, placement, and recognition of volunteers.
 Match volunteer interests and skills with organizational needs to ensure an enriching
experience.
 Maintain The Sophia Way's volunteer database, ensuring accurate and current
information.
 Develop volunteer position descriptions in collaboration with staff to meet programmatic
needs.
 Design and deliver volunteer orientations that connect service to impact and giving.
 Maintain volunteer calendars, ensuring adequate coverage and planning for
contingencies.
 Plan and implement volunteer appreciation activities and recognition events.
 Oversee the organization and inventory of in-kind donations with volunteer support.
 Serve as the main point of contact for meal donors and coordinate meal-related
donations.


Donor and Corporate Engagement
 Collaborate with the Director of Development to grow relationships with individual
donors, volunteers, and corporate partners.
 Cultivate and steward a portfolio of individual and small donors, encouraging deeper
involvement through giving, volunteerism, and sponsorship.
 Conduct outreach to corporations, community groups, and faith-based organizations to
build engagement and giving opportunities.
 Support the solicitation and fulfillment of event sponsorships, ensuring recognition
benefits are met and recorded.
 Partner with the Communications team to develop collateral and materials for donor and
volunteer outreach.

 Participate in donor events, community presentations, and speaking engagements to
represent The Sophia Way.
 Support the planning and execution of donor cultivation and fundraising events
(including logistics, registration, and follow-up).
 Track and record constituent engagement data in donor and volunteer databases.
Collaboration and Operations
 Work collaboratively with the Development and Program teams to connect volunteers
and donors to organizational priorities.
 Ensure cross-departmental coordination to link volunteerism to philanthropy.
 Participate in Development Team meetings, outreach events, and strategic planning as
assigned.
 Perform other duties as needed to support the mission of The Sophia Way.

Supervises: Volunteers and interns

Qualifications

Education and Experience
 Certificate or Associate's degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Experience in volunteer coordination, donor relations, or nonprofit development required.
 Experience with corporate outreach or sponsorships preferred.


Skills and Abilities
 Strong relationship-building and community engagement skills.
 Proficiency in volunteer or donor database systems and Microsoft Office/Google
Workspace.
 Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
 Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
 Understanding of and commitment to The Sophia Way's mission and values.
 Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
 Professionalism and integrity when working with confidential information.
 Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for events.


Working Conditions
 Office-based with regular travel to The Sophia Way shelter locations and community
events.
 Frequent computer use and communication via email and phone.
 Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
