About Our District
The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 25,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. Madison schools are committed to making this district a place where every child thrives.
Purpose of Position:
System Integration & Automation 30%
Implement and maintain system integrations, automated data exchanges and scheduled processes that support enterprise applications, ensuring accurate and reliable data flow between internal and external systems.
Design, develop and modernize custom web applications and database systems that support district operations.
Maintain and manage legacy data systems used for historical employee records, ensuring data integrity and understanding of the underlying schema structure and storage architecture
Design and maintain complex database files and systems
Collaborate with software vendors to diagnose, escalate, and resolve system-level issues
Build and maintain automated programs that update external databases, improve data accuracy, reduce manual errors
Design and implement automation solutions that streamline recurring data processes and improve accessibility for non-technical staff
Respond to technical requests, tickets and data requests from district staff, providing timely and accurate support for enterprise system
Develop and maintain SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports and other modern analytics tools to support reporting, analysis and operational needs
Provide advanced data analyses and reporting to support critical district decisions, including Board of Education requests, labor negotiations, grievances, retroactive pay calculations, turnover analysis, and external compliance or Open Records requests.
Train staff on software and system tools, creating clear documentation to support effective use
Meet with user groups and department leaders to identify business needs and deliver technical solutions, including automation where appropriate
Serve as a key contributor to new system implementations, customizations, or changes, troubleshooting operational issues and ensuring smooth adoption
Partner with the ERP System Administrator to support security configuration, system setup, upgrades, testing and issue resolving within enterprise applications, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve system efficiency and user effectiveness
Participate in system implementations, enhancements and customizations
Assist and mentor team members on software tools, reporting techniques, and data best practices
Performs other duties as assigned by executive leadership or their representatives or designees.
Attend district and school functions that support MMSD’s strategic framework, initiatives, and core values.
Complete any and all district required training.
Build collaborative relationships with business partners.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and the ability to go from one project to another as demand is needed
Ability to work on many servers and databases.
Knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and related enterprise applications, including system integrations and automated processes
Progressive and successful computer experience
Experience and familiarity with MS SQL Developer and Reporting Services (SSRS).
Good communication skills and familiarity with general business knowledge and practices.
Ability to diagnose technical issues and coordinating effective resolution with internal stakeholders and software vendors
Knowledge of Database design and functionality
Knowledge of Accounting/Budgeting processes and procedures
Knowledge of HR/Payroll processes and procedures
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and the ability to go from one project to another as demand is needed
Ability to do basic work on various servers
Ability to work on/with SQL Databases
Ability to interpret and apply business rules within complex enterprise systems
Demonstrated ability to establish relationships at all levels of the organization
Ability to adapt to evolving technology environments and shifting operational priorities
Follow principles and practices that promote and advance anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer programming, information systems, or a related field, or commensurate work experience demonstrating required skills
Minimum of 3 years of experience in application/system support or similar work experience.
Proficiency in SQL including writing queries, stored procedures, and database logic to support applications and reporting
Experience with Tyler Technologies Enterprise ERP (formerly Munis) or similar enterprise HR/Finance systems is preferred
Basic knowledge of AS/400 environments (preferred)
License or Certifications Requirements: None
Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.
Working Conditions:
Work requires travel to different locations within the district and to off-site meetings.
The position requires working evenings, nights, and some weekends.
Certain positions within the District may allow hybrid work flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process
School-based positions are required to be in-person unless otherwise directed by the building principal.
