Drax Unit 1 Outage - Plater

Job Summary

A Plater working on the Drax Unit 1 outage fabricates, repairs, and installs metal components and structures at the Drax power station. The role focuses on ensuring the integrity and safety of plant operations through precise metalwork during scheduled outage activities.

Key Duties

  • Interpret and follow technical drawings, specifications, and isometric diagrams for fabrication and installation tasks
  • Mark out, cut, and shape metal plate and sections using hand tools, power tools, and cutting machinery
  • Assemble structural components using welding, bolting, or riveting methods
  • Inspect existing metalwork for defects, corrosion, or damage and determine suitable repair methods
  • Remove, refurbish, and re-fit metal plate, ducts, pipework, and structural supports as directed
  • Ensure all fabricated items meet required tolerances and quality standards
  • Use lifting and rigging equipment safely to move heavy plate and assemblies
  • Maintain work area cleanliness and comply with site health and safety procedures at all times
  • Complete work documentation, task logs, and quality assurance checklists accurately
  • Collaborate with welders, fitters, supervisors, and other trades to complete project phases efficiently
  • Report defects, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly
  • Attend safety briefings and toolbox talks as required

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a plater or structural fabricator in an industrial or power station setting
  • Relevant trade qualification in plating, metal fabrication, or an associated discipline
  • Strong ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Competence in the use of fabrication and cutting tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of safe lifting, manual handling, and confined space working procedures
  • Awareness of site safety regulations and quality standards
  • Physical fitness to undertake manual handling, standing, and working at height for extended periods
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and reporting
  • Valid safety and site access qualification (such as CCNSG or equivalent, as required by Drax site policy)
Working Arrangements
NAECI RATES £23.45ph + £2.37 IBA + site performance bonus
Working pattern 13 on 1 off
Dayshift
Mon - Thur 07:30-17:20
Fri 07:30 - 13:20
Sat 07:00 - 13:00
Sun 07:00 - 14:00

Nightshift - £29.66ph + £2.37 IBA + site performance bonus
Sun-Thurs 17:00 - 03:20
Fri 13:00 - 19:00

Overtime rates
Overtime A: £32.83 - is paid after 8hrs per day, and after 4hrs on a Saturday
Overtime B: £42.21 - is paid Saturday PM and all Sunday & Bank Holidays
