Job Summary
The Driller is responsible for operating and monitoring drilling equipment to complete production, exploration, grade-control, blast-hole, or water-related drilling activities safely and efficiently at mine sites. The role supports daily mining operations by ensuring holes are drilled to the required depth, angle, diameter, and location in line with mine plans, safety standards, and site procedures. In Saudi Arabia, this role is typically performed within a regulated mining environment overseen by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, with strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and technical discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate drilling rigs and related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Drill blast holes, exploration holes, grade-control holes, or dewatering holes as required by the mine plan.
- Read and follow drilling patterns, bench layouts, coordinates, and supervisor instructions.
- Check hole depth, angle, alignment, and collar position to ensure accuracy.
- Conduct pre-start inspections and routine daily equipment checks.
- Monitor drilling parameters such as penetration rate, pressure, rotation, and bit wear.
- Replace drill bits, rods, hammers, and other consumables when needed.
- Report equipment defects, abnormal ground conditions, and safety hazards immediately.
- Maintain drilling logs, shift reports, meter readings, and production records.
- Coordinate with blasting, survey, geology, maintenance, and mine operations teams.
- Keep the rig, tools, and work area clean and in safe working condition.
- Follow all site HSE rules, permit systems, isolation procedures, and emergency response requirements.
HSE Responsibilities
- Comply with company HSE policies, mine rules, and toolbox talk instructions.
- Wear mandatory PPE at all times.
- Stop work if unsafe conditions exist.
- Inspect work area for ground instability, highwalls, loose rocks, poor access, or other hazards.
- Ensure safe handling of fuel, lubricants, compressed air, and drilling consumables.
- Report incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions.
- Support environmental controls such as dust suppression, spill prevention, and waste handling.
Qualification Requirements
- High school, technical certificate, or vocational training preferred.
- Valid operator certification or drilling equipment training preferred.
- Experience operating surface or underground drilling rigs in mining, quarrying, or heavy civil works.
- Good understanding of drilling methods, hole deviation control, and basic rig maintenance.
- Ability to work in remote sites, shift rotations, and harsh weather conditions.
