Driver – Dump Truck

Position Summary: The Dump Truck Driver’s primary function is to safely operate the dump truck and securely transport materials from one location to another. This position may assist with other project responsibilities and operating a variety of heavy equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Must follow all company policies and procedures and OSHA regulations to properly maintain a safe working environment at all times.
  • Responsible for the safe loading, securing and unloading of construction and paving equipment at work sites in a safe and timely manner over required route, obeying all traffic laws and observing all safety regulations.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all DOT and FMCSA safety regulations for operating the truck and securing cargo.
  • Must be familiar with the safe operation of construction and/or paving equipment.
  • Responsible for daily pre-trip and post-trip checks on the truck for leaks, damage, proper fluid levels (oil, water, fuel) and ensuring mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Must accurately maintain daily vehicle mileage logs.
  • Must obey all applicable laws and regulations while operating the truck.
  • Responsible for notifying Shop Foreman if the truck needs maintenance or repair.
  • Must carry a current medical examiners certificate while operating the truck.
  • Perform additional duties and incidental work as directed.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to pass background and drug testing as required by federal and/or state transportation regulations.
  • Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to speak in a professional and courteous manner with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to remain flexible with work hours and work overtime as required for project completion.
  • Ability to perform manual labor and outside work in all weather conditions including inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must use Personal Protective Equipment and have a strong commitment to following safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.

Education and Experience:

Must possess a current Commercial Drivers’ License with a Class A or B endorsement; Driving record must meet liability insurance regulations; High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work some Saturdays and at night, when needed.
