JOB PURPOSE
This job is field based (Port Qasim, Karachi, Sindh) and the job holder will directly report and work under the supervision of the Logistics Associate Warehouse Port Qasim. Job holder purpose is to provide efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and/or commodities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
1. Drive UN Fleet trucks, Fork lifter operator, Towing truck and UN Water bowser truck for the warehouse operation.2. Ensure that any mechanical failure, breakdown, internal or external damage of official vehicle is immediately reported to the supervisor. Perform timely minor repairs such as tire changing, greasing etc. as and when required.3. Ensuring day to day checks and basic maintenance of the vehicles as required and advise when servicing is due, or repairs are necessary4. Drive office light vehicle at the warehouse. Delivering and collecting mail, documents, and other items between the main office and warehouse.5. Collection of fuel from WFP designated filling station for warehouse generators stock.6. Take care of the day to day / periodical maintenance of assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery and brakes.7. Completing logbooks and vehicle records as necessary8. Ensure that all the UN trucks / vehicles are kept clean internally & externally9. Ensures that all vehicles are ready for any mission as per UN requirements
OTHER POST REQUIREMENTS:10. Deliver and collects goods, mail, documents and other items.11. Take care of the day-to-day efficient maintenance of the assigned means of transport, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is always kept clean and in good running condition.12. Maintain vigilance regarding security situation and immediately inform the concern on radio/mobile etc.13. Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.14. Identify any apparent problems during field deliveries and report them to the supervisor.15. Take the steps required in accordance with the rules and regulation in case of an accident.
16. Deal respectfully with the colleagues, passengers and public masses; and have problem solving approach.17. Submit Monthly fuel consumption report of assigned vehicle.18. Vehicle will be parked in safe place and will not be left unattended.19. When required, provide translation of basic information from the local language into an official language for the UN international staff in the vehicle.20. Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.21. Ability to read and understand specific vehicle operation manuals to ensure safe and appropriate operations of the vehicle.22. Perform other related duties in line with the job profile.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: Completion of secondary school education. Formal drivers training with a valid Heavy Transport vehicle (HTV) driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.
Experience: Two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorised vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues.
Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters.
Knowledge of driving operating rules and regulations
Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods .
Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Urdu. Knowledge of local language is highly desirable.
