The Bedford-Stuyvesant Family Health Center (BSFHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves all of the primary health care needs of families in the heart of North and Central Brooklyn. We are seeking a Driver & Maintenance Worker to join our team. Position requires substantial experience and verifiable work history at preforming similar duties in fast-paced work environment at a prior job. Driver & Maintenance Worker will transport passengers, pick up and deliver mails and driving for business needs and perform various maintenance duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Maintenance
- Ensure buildings/Worksites and exterior as a whole is clean and ready for use such as trash and snow removal, clean up, repairs Perform basic plumbing repairs, electrical and HVAC work.
- Painting, changing locks, sheet rocking and plastering, repairing cabinets, tiling.
- Cleaning, trash removal and snow removal.
- Setup and prepare for events and meetings during and after regular business hours
- Perform minor construction and repair of structural work.
- Maintain and preserve old or new surfaces by cleaning, scraping, sanding, caulking, filling, sealing and painting.
- Provide preventative maintenance to equipment, including lubrication, filter cleaning and replacement, and parts inspection and replacement

- Provide custodian duties as assigned and when needed.
- Receive and distribute deliveries to its proper designation
- Working in this capacity at various BSFHC sites when needed
- Investigate possible problems and manage solutions accordingly.
- Assist with building wide projects.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on a regular basis.
- Performs regular inspections of the building throughout the day
- Ensure proper handling of infectious and noninfectious waste
- Prepare and set up conference rooms for all meetings
- Receive and distribute deliveries to its proper designation Working in this capacity at various BSFHC site when needed
- Ensure center sidewalks and entrances are kept free of ice and snow during the Winter and free of debris at all times. Grass/Scrubs cutting.
- Ensure buildings/Worksites and exterior as a whole is clean and ready for use such as trash and snow removal, clean up, repairs
- Other duties as assigned
DRIVING
- Safely operate a vehicle while adhering to traffic laws and regulations and BSFHC driving policies such as tampering with GPS, Vehicle, etc.
- The Driver is responsible for safely operating a transit motor vehicle/Vans and transport passengers and driving for business needs, such as mail/packages drop off/pick up.
- Remain up to date with current standards of care, including equipment functions and uses and all licenses.
- Pick up passengers from designated locations and transport them to requested destinations.
- Maintain a clean and well-functioning vehicle, performing routine checks and reporting any maintenance issues.
- Conduct yourself in a courteous, helpful, and professional manner at all times when dealing with patients, co-workers, supervisors and the public.
- Keep the van clean and stocked and in good running order throughout the shift.
- Be in communication with supervisor on regular basis
- Transport board members, staff or visitors to and from meetings, destinations requested, to other worksites. May transport patients as needed
- Maintain a clean and well-functioning vehicle, performing routine checks and reporting any maintenance issues.
- Communicate with manager/management to determine pick-ups and delivery priorities while in the field.
- Pick-up and delivery of mail, small equipment, etc.
- Must pass yearly background and drug screening testings and as required
- Must take defensive driving course every three years and as required
Any other Duties that may be assigned from time to time
Education and Experience:- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred.
- Three (3) years relevant work experience can replace education requirements.
- Valid NYS Driver's License with excellent driving record and satisfactory status required background check to reasonably ensure safe vehicle operation without risk to driver, passengers or others.
- Driving record must also support BSFHC's procurement of any necessary insurance coverage for driver related duties at reasonable premium rates.
Other Related Skills/Experience and requirements:- Basic Computer Skills: Email, Texting, etc.
- Lite Plumbing short of licensed trade (able to notice and report problems, make basic or routine repairs or installations)
- Lite Electricity short of licensed trade (able to notice and report problems, make basic or routine repairs or installations)
- Lite Carpentry short of licensed trade (able to make small basic repairs or installations)
