The Drywall Mechanic is responsible for measuring, cutting, and installing drywall while maintaining a clean work area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains a clean work area and protects structures or surfaces near work areas to avoid damage.
Reading design plans and/or Blueprints in order to provide minimal wallboard to avoid unnecessary waste of materials
Measuring and marking cutting lines on framing, drywall, and trim using tape measure, straightedge, or square, and marking devices
Identifying the exact locations of windows, electrical outlets, and plumbing, and then cutting the drywall or ceiling tile to fit the precise size needed
Cutting drywall to the right size, using utility knives and power saws
Fastening drywall panels to interior wall studs, using nails or screws
Filling joints, holes, and cracks with compound, using a trowel and broad knife
Trimming and smoothing rough edges so boards join evenly without visual defect
Mixing compound to desired consistency
Cleaning and preparing surfaces for applications of materials, such as by drywall taping.
At times may work with metal studs.
Assembles and installs metal framing and decorative trim for windows, doorways, and vents as needed.
Installs horizontal and vertical metal or studs for attachment of wallboard on interior walls, using hand tools as needed.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
High school diploma GED (preferred)
3+ years of drywall experience (required)
