Purpose: To provide a quality early childhood program in a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment where development is enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing, and permits the child to grow and to explore.

Offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual and the group.

Maintain health and safety requirements mandated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, our licensing and governing agency.

Assist in the implementation of lesson plans based on Young Wonders curriculum format and expectations.

Interact with the children and encourage their involvement in activities.
-
Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior.

Use appropriate and positive discipline techniques with children based on Dr. Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline philosophy. Training will be provided.

Establish and maintain good communication with parents on a daily informal basis.

Assist classroom staff with meeting and maintaining a satisfactory score on the Environment Rating Scale.

Maintain necessary records and files.

Develop appropriate relationships with children of diverse backgrounds by treating all children with dignity and respect and by considering the child in relationship to his or her cultural and socio-economic background.

Participate in staff meetings, in service training, conferences, etc. as necessary.

Manage toileting needs of children including changing diapers when necessary.

Any other tasks or duties in which the job requires.
Reporting Relationships

Reports to the lead teacher on all matters regarding staff, children, parents, or program.

Reports to the lead teacher regarding any issues concerning lesson plans and implementation of curriculum.

Reports to the Director or Assistant Director on any matters requiring further assistance.

Reports to the Executive Director regarding any matters not sufficiently addressed by Assistant Director or Director. Include Director when appropriate.
Requirements

Must provide High School diploma and documented experience working with young children in a formal or informal setting.

Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children.
-
Ability to pick up a child weighing up to 40 pounds.

Evidence of emotional maturity and stability.

Ability to handle crisis situations.

Physical stamina

Ability to maintain and keep appropriate records and files.

Must be 18 years or older
-
Possess or be willing to obtain certification in Pediatric First Aid and Personal Safety and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Be willing to further professional development by acquiring the Child Development Associate Credential.

$16.00 per hour
Expected hours:
Monday - Friday: variable hours, depending on part-time or full-time status
