Objective
To foster a dynamic environment that promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and physical fitness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness.

Develop or implement an early childhood fitness curriculum that targets gross and fine motor development.

Demonstrate and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of games and body movement.

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, safe environment in the physical education areas.

Provide safety instructions and make safety checks on equipment and fitness areas to ensure the overall safety of students.

Provide maximum participation for all students by utilizing a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students with diverse ability levels.

Provide ongoing feedback to students to encourage them to develop their fitness level.

Monitor students’ progress, strengths, and weaknesses, and communicate these when necessary to parents/guardians, faculty and administrators.

Communicate effectively and timely with parents/guardians, administrators, and faculty as needed.

Collaborate with colleagues across the early childhood center and athletic department.

Attend and contribute in full, divisional, and departmental faculty meetings.

Take an active role in professional activities and attend relevant professional meetings and conferences.

Stay abreast of the latest advances in physical fitness education.
Work Environment
Physical demands include:

Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the students.

Ability to visually monitor students.

Ability to operate fitness equipment.

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 25 lbs.), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes (up to 25 lbs.)
Position Type
This is a full-time position with teaching responsibilities from August – May. As with any independent school, teachers should be ready to chaperone class trips, perform typical day-to-day duties such as lunch and carpool duties, and engage fully in all school events that develop the student.
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or related field preferred

A minimum of three years classroom or clinical experience is preferred.

Experience in fitness or gross / fine developmental programming for lower school students.

First aid, CPR, and AED certifications required. This will be provided by the school, if necessary.

Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects the values of the school.

Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians.

Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
-
Proficiency in Google Suite required.
