CO-TEACHER

Provides high quality educational, developmentally appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of each child, and establish and maintain rapport with the children and their families.

REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

STATUS: REGULAR FULL-TIME, NON-EXEMPT

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Lead Teacher will have an understanding and ability to put into practice and advocate for the following guiding principles: culturally and linguistically competent, child and family centered practice; natural learning environments; learner focused approach; functional and meaningful activities/supports; and operation from a systems perspective.

  • Work collaboratively as a team with a Co-Teacher
  • Create a secure and inviting environment which fosters exploration and discovery
  • Encourage children’s curiosity about the world and teaches problem solving skills
  • Establish stimulating Learning Centers in the classroom
  • Make specific preparation to implement center-adopted curriculum and assessments
  • Plan and conduct daily activities including preparation of educational materials to meet the needs of individual children and the developmental needs of the group
  • Observe children and maintain anecdotal records regarding their growth, health, behavior and progress; share this information with parents and appropriate personnel
  • Cooperate with families to meet individual goals for children
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences annually to keep parents informed of their child’s growth and development
  • Able to teach multi-aged children in the infant, toddler, and pre-school age-ranges
  • Guide, supervise and provide for safety of the children in class, the playground, and field trips.
  • Ensure that children are properly dressed for outdoor activities
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly indoor/outdoor classroom
  • Responsible for classroom volunteers, interns and practicum students and assignment of meaningful tasks
  • Perform other job-related duties requested by supervisor
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with families
  • Participate in reflective supervision of Associate Teachers and Teacher Floats
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Model appropriate behavior
  • Ability to utilize technology at a proficient level
  • Maintain and model excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS or AA/AS in Early Childhood Education, with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
  • BA/BS in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten endorsement, with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
  • BA/BS or AA/AS including at least 15 credit hours in Early Childhood Education, with grades of C or better from accredited college/university; OR
  • At least 3 years of experience in Early Childhood Education
  • At least 3 years of experience working in the Reggio Emilia Approach or utilizing Emergent Curriculum
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and see, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and move from standing to sitting on the floor and return to standing
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • At times, may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position
  • Fine hand manipulation is necessary when working with children, communicating in writing, and for utilizing technology
  • Ability to work within a moderate to high level noise environment

Other Requirements:

  • All as required by State of Indiana or NAEYC requirement
  • Must pass physical exam, TB and background tests as required by regulatory authorities
  • All required onboarding training
  • All job duties are expected to be completed in accord with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Vincent Early Learning Center

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.28 - $22.00 per hour
