Summary:
EHS Teacher provides a successful, safe, and supervised educational setting for infants and toddlers while in the learning
environment. EHS Teacher actively promotes school readiness goals and set appropriate goals for infants and toddlers to
address the five essential domains (social-emotional, cognitive development & general knowledge, language & literacy,
physical development & health and approaches to learning).
Develop individual goals, provide ongoing assessment on the developmental progress, and facilitate transition into Head Start
and/or other pre-school settings. EHS Teacher support parents in their roles as the primary caregivers and educators.

aspect of the program.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Work collaboratively with co-teacher related to classroom responsibilities.
2. Develops and implements a developmentally appropriate, multi-cultural curriculum for children.
3. Works cooperatively with support staff in the provision of direct services and the development of goals for children
with disabilities.
4. Performs duties in accordance with School Readiness goals and requirements.
5. Participates daily in team planning of curriculum with co- teacher, using and encouraging appropriate input from
parents
6. Supervises children at all times and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
7. Implements federal, state, and local health and safety policies/procedures and NC Day Care regulations.
8. Ensure the learning environment supports the development of all children’s social and emotional development,
cognitive, language and physical skills (making use of translators when necessary).
9. Assist in setting up the learning environment indoor and outdoor.
10. Teachers will interact directly with the children in all areas such as; the floor and playground area.
11. Use developmentally appropriate practices to facilitate activities with groups and individuals
12. Develop and utilize integrated curriculum plans and designated assessment system (Teaching Strategies Gold),
which reflect mandated elements and components, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social,
emotional, physical and cognitive development of the children enrolled.
13. Responsible for planning and implementing a curriculum that recognizes the need for individual activities, small and
large groups.
14. Directs classroom activities and maintaining discipline in an appropriate manner.
15. Encourages all children to participate fully in all activities at all levels of interest and ability.
16. Supports the development of relationships between children and their families.
17. Assist in recruiting and orienting volunteers, providing them with guidance as needed
18. Follow a consistent scheduled that meets individual needs, including small and larger group experiences,
choice time, music/movement, small/large motor activities, meals, and effective transitions between
activities.
19. Meets regularly with appropriate staff members to exchange information pertinent to the identification of
services to meet the needs of each child.
20. Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child including weekly observations
in each developmental area, examples of child’s work, and developmental assessment completed
according to the education timeline.
21. Works with the other classroom teacher and collaborates to apply skills and abilities in planning and
carrying out classroom activities
22. Maintains a safe and healthy classroom environment. Assure that classroom equipment, furniture,
materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored
23. Uses the playground as an extension of the classroom; assures that the playground is safe.
24. Assists in conducting the daily health and environment check list
25. Assists in implementing children's I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) and/or refer children for suspected
developmental delays: develop lesson plan goals that support children’s IEP or IFSP.
26. Completes and submits required forms and records in a timely and accurate fashion, e.g., lesson plans,
portfolio forms, assessment, time sheets, meal reports etc.
27. Actively assists in transition activities
28. Distributes newsletters, flyers, and other information to families as instructed by the supervisor
29. Assures that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained.
30. Adheres to protocols and procedures for active supervision.
31. Must adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times.
32. Other duties as required
Parent and Community Engagement:
1. Conducts home visits and parent/teacher conferences as required by Head Start Performance Standards.
2. Participates in workshops, meetings, community events, etc. (e.g. partner meetings, conferences, etc.) for the
purpose of receiving and/or presenting information.
3. Assist in recruiting and orienting volunteers, providing them with guidance as needed
Compliance and Reporting:
1. Responsible for maintaining compliance by adhering to Agency Policy and Procedures, Administration for Children
and Families, Performance Standards, North Carolina Day Care rules and regulations.
2. Completes and maintains all necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with Head Start performance
standards.
3. Responsible for maintaining training hours as directed by the Division of Child Development and Day Care Licensing
requirements through Agency pre-service and in service, and workshops, conferences, etc.
Professional Responsibilities:
1. Assist in maintaining staff/child ratio at all times.
2. Responsible for reporting potential abuse and neglect according to the Head Start/Early Start Policies and
Procedures.
3. Responsible for adhering to professional development plan including renewal of annual credentials (*which are
required for continued employment in this position).
4. Must be able to periodically attend out of town conferences and training session
5. Maintain professionalism at all times through actions and behavior
6. Display a friendly and positive attitude towards job duties, parents, children, staff members and others (visitors,
volunteers, community partners) and willingly perform job duties.
7. Communicate effectively by using productive comments, pleasant expressions and welcoming gestures
8. Must be a team player
Position Qualifications:
Required
- Associate’s degree in early childhood education or Birth to Kindergarten
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in direct services to children in a childcare setting
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites, community resources, and home visits
- Meet federal and state background check and drug screen requirements
Preferred
- Proficient in conversational Spanish
- Experience in a Child Development, Head Start, or Early Head Start organization
- Infant/child first aid/CPR
