Job Summary
The TMT, Stress ECHO & 2D ECHO Technician is responsible for conducting non-invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures including Treadmill Test (TMT), Stress Echocardiography, and 2D Echocardiography. The role ensures accurate test performance, patient safety, quality imaging, proper documentation, and effective coordination with cardiologists for diagnosis and treatment planning.
Key Responsibilities1. Treadmill Test (TMT)
- Prepare patients physically and mentally for the procedure by explaining the test protocol, risks, and precautions
- Record baseline ECG, blood pressure, heart rate, and medical history
- Operate treadmill and ECG monitoring systems accurately
- Monitor patient vitals continuously during all stages of exercise
- Identify early signs of distress, arrhythmia, ischemia, or abnormal BP response
- Immediately inform cardiologist of abnormal findings or emergencies
- Provide post-test patient care and recovery monitoring
- Ensure proper documentation and report generation
2. Stress Echocardiography
- Assist cardiologist in pharmacological or exercise-based stress echo procedures
- Prepare patient and equipment before stress testing
- Acquire high-quality pre-stress and post-stress echocardiographic images
- Monitor ECG, BP, oxygen saturation, and symptoms during stress procedure
- Maintain strict safety protocols due to high-risk nature of procedure
- Ensure correct labeling, storage, and transfer of images
- Support emergency response if adverse reactions occur
3. 2D Echocardiography
- Perform complete transthoracic echocardiograms (2D, M-mode, Doppler, Color Doppler)
- Measure cardiac dimensions, wall motion, valve function, EF, and blood flow velocities
- Detect abnormalities such as cardiomyopathy, valvular disease, pericardial effusion, congenital defects, etc.
- Generate accurate preliminary reports for cardiologist review
- Maintain patient comfort and confidentiality during procedure
4. Equipment Handling & Maintenance
- Operate ECG machines, treadmills, echo machines, and monitoring systems efficiently
- Perform routine calibration, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting
- Report equipment malfunctions immediately to biomedical department
- Ensure availability of emergency equipment (defibrillator, oxygen, medicines)
5. Patient Safety & Infection Control
- Follow hospital safety, hygiene, and infection control guidelines
- Verify patient identity and consent before procedures
- Use PPE and sterilization protocols strictly
- Handle high-risk cardiac patients with extra care
6. Documentation & Administration
- Maintain detailed patient test records and reports
- Update hospital information system (HIS) accurately
- Coordinate scheduling of tests with OPD/IPD and consultants
- Assist in audits, quality checks, and accreditation processes (NABH, etc.)
7. Team Coordination
- Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and emergency team
- Support junior technicians and trainees if required
- Participate in departmental meetings and training programs
Required Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Cardiac Technology / Cardiovascular Technology / Echocardiography
- Certified training in TMT, Stress Echo, and 2D Echo preferred
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in hospital or diagnostic center.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology
- Proficiency in ECG interpretation basics
- Excellent patient-handling and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure during emergencies
- Attention to detail and diagnostic accuracy
- Computer skills for reporting and record keeping.
