Description
The Legislative Research Commission is accepting applications for the position of Education Accountability Investigator in the Office of Education and Accountability. This position is nonpartisan in nature and requires the ability to work with neutrality in a politically charged environment.

This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits including health and life insurance; retirement plan; and paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. Compensatory time is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis with prior approval.

Job Duties:
  • Current knowledge of KRS, KAR, Attorney General Opinions, School Board and SBDM policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategies aligned with established office practices to investigate assigned complaints.
  • Timely review and prepare all cases for investigation.
  • Timely and accurately collect, organize, and maintain all documents, statements, and information gathered during an investigation of assigned cases.
  • Thoroughly investigate assigned complaints by conducting interviews, gathering documents, and collecting other forms of evidence necessary to determine the validity of any allegations.
  • Draft preliminary and final reports stating findings, conclusions, and resolutions of investigation for review and approval by Division Manager.
  • Close all completed investigative files according to established office procedures including removal of all preliminary work and duplicative work from files. Maintain digital records of all work as required by office practice.
  • Meet with Division Manager to review cases and progress on investigations.
  • Review and follow the progress of proposed legislation relating to education, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of all enacted legislation.
  • Assist with all calls and inquiries as assigned by Division Manager. Communicate professionally with complainants, school district staff, parents, and constituents, and determine the most appropriate way to assist.
  • Travel as required, Including possibly overnight travel
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of assigned subject matter and the ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and legal precedent.
  • Strong subject matter investigation and research skills, and the ability to prepare succinct written analysis of complex projects and issues.
  • Ability to self-manage assigned investigations and timely complete assigned work.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet specific deadlines.
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Windows Office products.
  • Ability to accurately and securely collect, analyze, and maintain all documents, records and files collected through an investigation.
  • Public service orientation, and dedication to meeting the needs of a diverse range of individuals and groups.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Juris Doctor, EdD, master’s degree, or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Work experience in a related role demonstrating necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities is required. The ideal candidate should possess a combination of academic qualifications and practical experience to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
