Position Description
SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER
(INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor Degree in a technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Three (3) to five (5) years experience managing information systems activities including planning, coordinating, and
securing voice, video, and data communication activities
• Experience working in an educational environment preferred
• Network related certification such as Cisco Meraki Network Operator (CMNO), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA),
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
• Experience must include hands on activities with routers, firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), intrusion detection
and related network security functions
• Must be able to attend and complete various training sessions to maintain knowledge of current technology and systems

• Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License; if a holder of any other valid US state-issued Driver’s License, agree to acquire a
Florida Driver’s License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required
• Must be able to operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School
Board Policy 505

• Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)Ability to configure, install,
tune, and load balance current standard wireless network systems and access points
• Thorough knowledge of local area networking (LAN) and wide area networking (WAN), including routers, switches,
wireless access points, and data line installation
• Extensive knowledge of the open systems interconnection reference model (OSI) as it applies to hardware, including
cabling, modems, hubs, LAN cards, bridges, switches, routing, and gateways
• Extensive knowledge of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) specifications
• Ability to manage, design, implement, and maintain networks
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
• Ability to troubleshoot complex network failures
• Ability to monitor network performance and recognize problems
• Ability to estimate and communicate the impact of applications on network traffic in present or projected network
configurations
• Ability to carry out long range responsibilities

Lead the design, maintenance, and support of network infrastructure and systems to ensure excellent network
availability and reliability for staff and students

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. *Design and oversee district-wide network and access security methodologies.
2. *Provide direct support for all network security activities, including periodic security audits.
3. *Develop technical assistance guides for end users.
4. *Provide research and data analysis to assist in decision making, including preparing and presenting statistical reports as
requested.
5. *Serve as a resource person when developing and revising district policies and procedures as they relate to network security.
6. *Assure compliance with district security standards.
7. *Keep current with hardware and software technology through education courses and self-study.
8. *Provide teachers, administrators, and district staff with technical support in the planning, implementation and support of projects
involving network infrastructure.
9. *Develop short- and long-range plans for assigned functions and oversee operational activities.
10. *Act as liaison contact for assigned functions with the community and agencies and organizations outside the
ystem.
11. *Represent at appropriate state and national activities.
12. *Serve as back-up to other positions as assigned.
13. *Work within the division’s established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and success
of changes made to the network infrastructure.
14. *Participate in the development and implementation of new procedures commensurate with improving operational efficiency.
15. *Coordinate all required network maintenance and related activities.
16. *Support and oversee safe operational practices, including training and monitoring of personnel.
17. *Assist in the management of the activities of district telecommunications services.
18. *Coordinate with the Senior Systems Administrator – Cyber Security for all network security activities.
19. *Maintain a phased project development schedule.
20. *Develop and execute a system test plan.
21. *Research, evaluate, configure, and recommend vendor selections for network hardware and software.
22. *Manage special projects as assigned.
23. *May require working during non-business hours or non-school days and being on call to resolve technical difficulties on an
emergency basis.
24. Perform other related duties as assigned.
