About our Team
The Lancet Regional Health - Eastern Mediterranean will be the latest addition to The Lancet’s suite of open access general medical journals focusing on publishing high quality, evidence-based research focused on six regions of the world. The team will handle high quality research, reviews, and commentaries with the goal to improve health outcomes by advancing the research agenda, advocating for equal access to quality healthcare for all, and fostering the advancement of clinical practice and health policy. They will build solid relationships with research communities to ensure we offer, exciting, interesting and thought-provoking content.
About the Role
As an in-house Editor-in-Chief, you will oversee the creation and publication of original material for our journal. You will take ownership of submissions and oversee quality peer review to ensure we publish high-quality content. You will build global relationships with experts in the community to attract and disseminate practice-changing work from the field.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily editorial operations, including manuscript handling and peer-review processes
  • Drive the editorial strategy in alignment with the journal’s mission and scope
  • Provide direct line management to a Senior Editor
  • Cultivate relationships with the regional health research community to attract high-quality submissions
  • Represent the journal at academic conferences and professional events
  • Monitor developments in regional health to identify emerging topics of interest
  • Contribute written content, including editorials, as required
  • Support the development of new initiatives to enhance the journal’s reach and impact Participate in projects across The Lancet Group and, on occasion, with Elsevier and RELX
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in a relevant medical or scientific discipline (e.g., MD, PhD)
  • Editorial experience at a senior level, preferably within academic publishing, journal production, and of running an editorial team
  • Be able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of biological and medical sciences, and broader social issues pertaining to regional health
  • Ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders, including medical professionals, researchers, internal teams, and media representatives.
  • Proven ability to manage editorial workflows and meet publication deadlines
  • Excellent command of the English language and the ability to write in an engaging and interesting manner
  • Proficient with IT systems including MS Office
