Purpose

The Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) Technical Designer, working closely and collaboratively with the EDW Principal Architect, is responsible for designing and implementing modern, scalable data solutions that enable efficient data integration, transformation, and reporting across the organization. This role combines expertise in data modeling and SQL development with hands-on experience in cloud-native technologies, including Microsoft Azure, Databricks, and Medallion Architecture.

In addition to ensuring EDW tables, processes, and transformations meet business requirements and support advanced analytics, the position provides integrated process consulting to align business architecture needs with emerging technologies. By influencing decisions and priorities regarding the enterprise’s overall business system architecture, the EDW Technical Designer enhances current business processes and supports corporate goals through AI-driven optimizations, structured data lakehouse principles, and actionable insights delivered via reports and dashboards.

Responsibilities

  • EDW Design & Development
    • Designs and implements EDW tables, schemas, and data models using dimensional modeling (star/snowflake) based on the defined EDW architectural philosophy and standards.
    • Writes and tests complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts for large-scale data processing and reporting.
    • Works with the EDW Principal Architect and other developers to optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts.
    • Creates source-to-target mapping documents and ensure accurate data lineage.
    • Optimizes SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects for performance and scalability.
    • Ensures data quality, consistency, and governance across multiple sources and layers of the Medallion Architecture.
    • Conducts data profiling and quality checks across source systems and EDW layers.
  • Collaboration & Documentation
    • Partners with data scientists, data engineers, analysts, BI developers, and business stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions and AI-enhanced insights.
    • Consults with business units to understand existing business processes to increase efficiency and business functions.
    • Acts in a consultative role during plan, build, and implementation of solutions to the enterprise and ensures goals are achieved.
    • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
    • Participates in project planning, resource allocation, and solution implementation.
    • Manages multiple projects and/or programs for the health net enterprise.
    • Maintains comprehensive documentation for data models, pipelines, and AI integration strategies.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Stays current with emerging technologies and best practices in EDW, SQL development, and BI reporting.
    • Participates in research, evaluation, and assessment of proposed new technologies.
    • Recommends improvements to data processes, performance tuning, and reporting capabilities.
  • Reporting & Dashboard Development
    • Designs and develops interactive dashboards and reports using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
    • Collaborates with business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
    • Ensures reports and dashboards are accurate, user-friendly, and aligned with KPIs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of System/Solutions integration experience, EDW development, SQL programming, and data integration.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database design.
  • Experience with BI/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS).
  • Solid understanding of dimensional modeling and data warehousing principles.
  • Experience in designing and implementing technology solutions in a large, complex environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare business process and technology experience.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Familiarity with iterative development methodologies (Agile).
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse/Data Factory/SQL Databases, AWS Redshift).
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, Spark MLlib).
  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance best practices.

Work Environment

This position operates in a home or professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
