Job Description

Location: Butibori, Nagpur
Department: Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)
Reports To: Plant Operations Head
Experience: Minimum 12 years, with experience in both project and operations phase of a manufacturing plant, preferably in glass, cement, steel, or other high-temperature industries

Role Overview
To lead the EHS function for a greenfield glass manufacturing plant across its lifecycle—from design and construction to commissioning and full-fledged operations. The role will be responsible for implementing robust safety systems, driving statutory compliance, promoting environmental stewardship, and fostering a zero-harm culture.
Key Responsibilities
A. During Project / Plant Setup Phase
§ Participate in plant design reviews to ensure EHS considerations are integrated in plant layout and engineering design.
§ Prepare the Construction Safety Plan and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the project.
§ Obtain and manage statutory approvals: Factory License, Consent to Establish (CTE), Environmental Clearances, Fire NOC, etc.
§ Implement site safety systems including HIRA, PTW, LOTO, work-at-height, confined space entry, hot work protocols, etc.
§ Monitor and mitigate environmental impacts during construction (dust, noise, water usage, waste).
§ Conduct regular safety training and toolbox talks for contractors, workers, and supervisors.
§ Ensure incident investigation, root cause analysis (RCA), and closure of CAPA.
§ Coordinate with EPC contractors, consultants, and local authorities for safety and compliance.
B. Post-Commissioning / Operations Phase
§ Transition safety systems from construction to operations mode with robust SOPs and safe operating practices.
§ Implement and continuously improve EHS Management Systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
§ Monitor legal compliance related to hazardous material handling, air/water/solid waste discharge, and safety audits.
§ Lead internal and external safety audits, including compliance with state and central regulations.
§ Develop site-specific emergency response plans and conduct regular fire & safety drills.
§ Drive safety performance metrics: Near Miss Reporting, LTIFR, TRIR, Safety Observations, etc.
§ Promote a culture of behavioral safety and implement safety recognition programs.
§ Ensure environmental monitoring for stack emissions, wastewater, noise, and solid waste disposal as per norms.
§ Establish sustainability initiatives in line with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) goals.
Team & Leadership Responsibilities
§ Build, mentor, and lead the plant EHS team and contractor safety personnel.
§ Drive accountability for EHS at all levels through cross-functional engagement.
§ Provide regular updates and dashboards to senior leadership.
Key Skills & Competencies
§ Deep knowledge of Indian EHS legal and regulatory framework
§ Experience with safety systems in glass or high-temperature process industry
§ Hands-on with risk assessments, incident investigation techniques, and root cause analysis
§ Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
§ Digital fluency in EHS software, dashboards, and compliance tools
Qualification:
§ B.E./B.Tech in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, etc.)
§ Mandatory: Diploma in Industrial Safety recognized by State/Central Govt
Preferred: NEBOSH IGC, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Lead Auditor Certifications
