The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

Receives requisitions for electrocardiograms and other cardiac monitoring examinations;

Performs inpatient and outpatient routine and Short Turn Around Time (STAT) EKG's, including walk-in patients referred from other clinics;

Prepares and assists patients prior to examinations, attaches electrodes, and operates the electrocardiograph;

Verifies valid physician order or requisition for EKG study, verifies patient identifiers and inputs patient demographics into EKG machine;

Monitors the recording procedures to discern artifact or abnormalities;

Prepares EKG and other cardiac tracings for upload into EKG Data Storage System and assigns studies to be read by physicians;

Prepares, sets up, and instructs patients for the 24 hour ambulatory Holter cardiac monitoring procedure;

Prepares appropriate EKG charges for data entry by department billing personnel;

Cleans and performs light maintenance on EKG equipment and notifies internal biomedical equipment repair staff or equipment vendors for more difficult repairs;

During daily inpatient rounds, performs checks on unit EKG carts to verify accuracy of time, date and other settings;
Performs pacemaker interrogation checks accurately and efficiently;
Performs stress tests safely and accurately, including exercise treadmill, Lexiscan, Adenosine, Dobutamine stress ECHO, exercise stress ECHO and nuclear treadmill;
Monitors and evaluates patient’s responses to testing procedures such as symptoms, vital signs and arrhythmias;
Administers the application of the Zio-patch on patients accurately and efficiently;
Maintains records of daily EKG processes; edits and transcribes functions for lead EKG attachments, Holter reports and 30-day Event reports;
Maintains files, prepares new file folders in accordance with established protocols and procedures, searches for and pulls files;
Performs Quality Control by verifying all hard copy data has been transferred to EKG Data Storage System;
Collects EKGs from all inpatient and outpatient sources on all shifts (such as emergency department and health clinics) in electronic format or via regular delivery system; verifies accuracy of data and uploads studies to EKG Data Storage Systems;
Makes copies of EKG tracings and reports upon request of other departments and agencies;
Orders departmental supplies;
May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW), as required*;
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
