Electrical Apprentice- Davenport

The Electrical Apprenticeship at Arconic Davenport Works is a developmental position with a career path to becoming a qualified Journey-Level Electrician.

Apprentices will enter an Electrician Training Program which will include both classroom and on-the-job training.

To move to Journey-Level Electrician, successful candidates will be required to complete an Individual Development Plan (IDP) and pass journey-level testing requirements and submit all required documentation on time.


Pass six months of probation. Attend and maintain grades for all classes that the individual is enrolled in. Complete IDP (individual development plan), and by the end of the program take and pass the Journey Level Electrician Exam. Submit all required tracking and documentation on time.

Upon completion of training, a Journey Level Electrician performs the following job duties:

  • Diagnose, repair and maintain equipment such as electrical/electronic/mill equipment and pneumatic equipment systems, communication systems, and plant utility systems following documented procedures when needed.
  • Dismantle, move, fabricate, re-design (with proper authorization), assemble, and install electrical/electronic mill equipment, controls and components.

Primary Function of the Job:

  • Inspect, fabricate, install, repair, modify, calibrate, adjust, test, perform preventative maintenance and service mill equipment, high voltage power distribution, electrical, electronics (including computers and microprocessor-based controllers), communications, recording/control, combustion equipment.

Materials used, Processed and Handled:

  • Wire, cable, conduit, fittings and fasteners, insulation, electric control components, motors; soldering, welding and brazing materials and gas supplies; paint, solvents and cleaning materials, lubricants, ink; natural and refrigeration gases, mercury, chlorine; acids, abrasion materials, electrical/electronic computer equipment and parts.

Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Hand tools, high voltage equipment, welding, soldering, brazing, burning and cutting equipment; drill presses, saws, sanders, threading machine, crimping equipment, pipe benders, cleaning and grinding equipment; electrical, mechanical and predictive maintenance test equipment; cranes, hoists, industrial trucks, aerial personnel lift equipment, ladders and scaffolding; temperature, pressure and weight measuring devices; oscilloscopes, portable generators gas analyzers, programmable logic controller, computers, electrical measuring devices, power distribution analyzers, strip charge recorders; special recording and digital test equipment.

Minimum Basic Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Satisfactorily pass a comprehensive skills test and interview.

3. Pass a physical examination, drug screen test and background check post offer.

4. Must be able to work off shifts and weekends.

5. Must be able to work 12-hour workdays / some overtime is required.

6. Apprentices must be able to attend evening classes if needed.

7. Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

8. This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e.'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
