Electrical Building Technician - Intercontinental Airport Central Plant

Job Summary :
The Electrical Building Technician is responsible for performing installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment within commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. This role ensures that all electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards, while supporting building operations and occupant comfort.

Essential Duties:
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, outlets, motors, controls, and low-voltage systems.

  • Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions and complete timely repairs to minimize downtime.

  • Install and upgrade electrical equipment, wiring, and fixtures as required.

  • Inspect building electrical systems to ensure compliance with NEC (National Electrical Code), safety standards, and company policies.

  • Respond to service requests and work orders related to electrical issues.

  • Support HVAC, mechanical, and building automation systems as needed (cross-functional support with other trades).

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs.

  • Assist with energy efficiency initiatives and recommend improvements for building electrical systems.

  • Ensure safe work practices, including lockout/tagout and proper use of PPE.

  • Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and other facility staff on projects and system upgrades.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Technical or Trade School certificate in Electrical Technology preferred.

  • Valid State Electrical License or Journeyman Certification (if applicable).

  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience as an electrician, electrical technician, or building maintenance technician with strong electrical background.

  • Working knowledge of NEC, OSHA, and other regulatory codes.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS), fire alarm systems, and energy management preferred.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods.

  • Lift and carry equipment or materials up to 50 lbs.

  • Work in confined spaces, on rooftops, or other non-standard building areas as required.

Work Environment

  • Primarily on-site at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

  • May require evening, weekend, or on-call work depending on operational needs.

  • Will require you to pass a Government Customs background check
  • Must have a valid drivers license
