Position: Electrical Design Engineer – Motor Panels & Controls
Department: Engineering
Job Purpose
To design, develop, and estimate electrical systems, Motor Starter Panels, and HVAC control panels in accordance with customer specifications and industry standards. The role involves preparation of technical drawings, control schematics, costing, and coordination with production, sales, and site teams to ensure high-quality and compliant project execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Design & Engineering
- Design electrical systems and control panels as per project specifications and customer requirements.
- Perform load calculations, cable sizing, and selection of appropriate electrical components.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures.
- Develop control philosophy and sequence of operations for various applications.
2. Motor Starter Panel & Controls Design (Mandatory Requirement)
- Design and estimate Motor Starter Panels, including:
- DOL (Direct-On-Line) Starters
- Star-Delta Starters
- VFD Panels
- Soft Starter Panels
- Develop multi-motor control panels for HVAC and industrial applications.
- Design HVAC control panels for AHUs, duct heaters, exhaust fans, and ventilation systems.
- Prepare detailed wiring diagrams, SLDs (Single Line Diagrams), schematic diagrams, and GA drawings.
- Develop motor control logic, interlocks, safety circuits, and overload protection schemes.
- Integrate VFDs and ensure energy-efficient motor control solutions.
- Select and configure components such as MCCB, MCB, contactors, relays, overload relays, timers, PLCs (if applicable), thermostats, sensors, and control devices.
- Ensure proper panel layout, busbar sizing, heat dissipation, earthing, and ventilation considerations.
3. Documentation & Submittals
- Prepare technical submittals, compliance documents, and material approvals.
- Draft and review electrical drawings before submission to ensure alignment with customer specifications.
- Maintain documentation control and revision tracking.
- Support preparation of O&M manuals and handover documentation.
4. Estimation & Costing
- Prepare detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) for motor starter and control panels.
- Conduct costing and margin analysis.
- Handle special and non-standard panel design inquiries.
- Provide product comparisons and recommend cost-effective alternatives.
5. Production & Quality Support
- Coordinate with production to ensure proper panel assembly and adherence to design.
- Provide technical clarification during manufacturing.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) where required.
- Assist in maintaining high-quality standards and continuous product improvement.
6. Reporting & General Responsibilities
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly engineering reports.
- Support improvement of product catalogues and panel designs.
- Perform additional tasks assigned by management to meet company objectives.
- Management reserves the right to modify responsibilities or transfer the employee based on business needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- 3–8 years of relevant experience in electrical design, specifically in Motor Starter Panels and HVAC control panels.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD / Electrical CAD software.
- Strong knowledge of motor control systems and protection schemes.
- Understanding of PLC/relay-based control systems and BMS integration.
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards and panel manufacturing practices.
