Electrical Designer II
Primary Purpose: The Electrical Designer II completely designs projects of a small to medium
size with limited oversight by the engineer of record. He/she utilizes design and REVIT skills
and experience to ensure quality, engineering solutions.
Authority: The Electrical Designer II reports operationally to the senior staff member
responsible for the specific project and has the authority to exercise independent control over
the design and production tasks to which assigned. An engineer performs a detailed review of
all completed non-routine items; a general review of routine items is performed. The Electrical
Designer II works with a high level of independence; represents Miller Electric in communication
with Owner-Architect-Contractors; resolves complex design problems relying upon discipline
experience.
Responsibilities: Responsible for the complete performance of the assigned tasks, assuring
completion with attention to quality and service within the project budget and schedule while
maintaining positive client relationships. The guidelines, practices and policies of the business
unit must be followed. The Electrical Designer II produces complex designs consistent with
the skills and experience of the individual to assure quality, engineering solutions. Working with
other team members on complex projects, the activities will include a high degree of analysis
and creative solutions. He/she is responsible to coordinate efforts between disciplines and work
as a team player on complex projects.
The Electrical Designer II’s activities will include but are not limited to:
1. Scope of work
- Begin to build the scope of work picture with design narratives, drawings and dialogue with the Senior Engineer, the project manager or the owner as necessary, asking questions as appropriate
- Meet with the owner/client to advance the scope of work and fill in detail for a smooth process. Pertinent data is collected by gathering any drawings the client has on hand, conducting site inspection and investigation, or meeting with PM.
2. Design
- Coordinate with other disciplines, Authority Having Jurisdiction and with the owner/client.
- Utilize advanced code knowledge related to design and installation of equipment and area of project.
- Prepare calculations for equipment sizing and selection.
- Interact with vendors when necessary.
- Complete design of building electrical systems.
- Include modifications, as necessary, based upon owner/client changes.
- Include any owner/client comments into the drawings.
- Edit specifications for job specific criteria.
- Incorporate any code comments into the drawings and prepare written responses to code officials.
- Set up Revit model, central file and links.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
- 5+ Years of drafting and design experience in the Electrical environment
- Must possess a high level of Revit proficiency
- AA degree preferred, Technical certifications as necessary
- Computer software expertise
- Experienced in discipline codes and general engineering
