Electrical Engineer – Transmission & Distribution Power Systems

Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer – Transmission & Distribution Power Systems is responsible for providing expert technical support, analysis, and review of high- and medium-voltage systems including substations, overhead lines, and underground networks. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of transmission and distribution primary equipment and contribute to system studies, design reviews, commissioning, and standards development.

Key Responsibilities:

•Perform detailed electrical studies such as:oLoad flow, short circuit, protection coordinationoArc flash and grounding analysisoReliability and contingency (N-1/N-2) analysis•Review and assess designs for transmission and distribution systems:oHigh-voltage substations (115kV to 380kV)oMedium-voltage networks (13.8kV, 33kV)oOverhead and underground line configurations•Evaluate and specify primary equipment, including:oTransformers (power and distribution)oCircuit breakers, disconnect switches, CTs, VTsoSurge arresters, busbars, reactors, capacitorsoCables, switchgear, ring main units (RMUs)•Conduct technical evaluations of supplier/vendor proposals•Support construction and commissioning teams in verifying proper installation and function of primary equipment•Develop and maintain technical standards, specifications, and engineering procedures in line with industry and regulatory codes (e.g., IEEE, IEC, SEC)


• Interface with Operations, Planning,, and external consultants as needed

• Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and presentations for internal and regulatory use.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s is a plus)

• 5+ years of experience in utility or consultancy roles focused on transmission and distribution systems

• Proven knowledge of: o Primary equipment used in T&D substations and networks

o Protection systems, SCADA, and power system automation

o Power system modeling tools such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, or CYME


• Familiarity with na tional and regional codes and standards (SEC, SERA, GCCIA)

• Strong understanding of asset lifecycle, maintenance implications, and system reliability metrics


Preferred Certifications:

• Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent registration


Work Environment:

• Office-based with occasional travel to substations, control centers, or project sites

• Involves technical coordination with multiple internal and external stakeholders
