About the Role

Morton Solar & Electric is hiring an Electrical Engineer to design, test, and support solar PV and battery energy storage systems (residential, commercial, and light industrial).
You’ll take ownership of system layouts, electrical drawings, and interconnection documentation — ensuring every project is safe, efficient, and code-compliant.

You’ll work hands-on with project managers, field electricians, and designers to bridge engineering theory with field execution.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and engineer solar PV and energy storage systems from concept to completion.
  • Create single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and wiring schematics in AutoCAD or DraftSight.
  • Perform load calculations, string sizing, conductor and breaker sizing, and grounding design per NEC.
  • Provide technical support during installation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Prepare and track utility interconnection applications, SREC/REC registrations, and incentive paperwork.
  • Develop USDA REAP grant documentation and coordinate technical exhibits.
  • Review performance data to ensure systems operate within design parameters.
  • Collaborate across engineering, sales, and construction to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Apply sound electrical engineering principles to continuously improve designs and workflows.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (EIT preferred, PE a plus).
  • 1+ years’ experience in electrical design, solar, or energy systems (entry-level candidates encouraged to apply).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Draftsight and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of NEC Articles 690, 705, 706.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to visit project sites.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with PVsyst, HelioScope, or other PV design tools.
  • Background in industrial automation or electrical contracting.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming, SCADA/EMS/BMS, or system controls integration.
  • Experience submitting utility interconnection and permitting applications.

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay + overtime (based on experience).
  • IBEW health insurance after a 90-day probationary/training period.
  • Continuous professional development and paid training opportunities.
  • Career advancement into Senior Engineer or Project Lead roles.
