Description

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team, supporting the design, development, troubleshooting, testing, and in-service support of the Common Aviation Command and Control System (CAC2s) program for our customer site in North Charleston, SC.

Roles/Responsibilities: (include, but are not limited to)

  • Develop a modular, power distribution architecture for distributed maritime sensors
  • Integrate voltage-level negotiation for subsystems (similar to that of USB-C PD)
  • Incorporate renewable energy solutions such as wave harnessing, solar, peltier into a system architecture for improved persistence
  • Perform power budget analysis to inform power system and support sensing, communication, and edge processing operations of complex systems
  • Develop designs for signal/power PCBs using best practices for trace routing, thermal management, signal isolation, and grounding

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience

Relevant Background/Experience:

  • Development of DC power distribution architectures
  • Experience programming microcontrollers to monitor system status and implement control systems to toggle power amongst sub-systems/components
  • Familiarity with UART, I2C, RS232, RS485, USB, Ethernet protocols
  • IoT experience with low-SWaP sensors and systems
  • PCB design for DC power distribution.in small, distributed (IoT) systems incorporating power toggling via microcontroller, renewables, and modular design

Desired Skills:

  • Power Distribution Design for DC Systems
  • PCB Design (Power and Signal)
  • Proven development of power control systems for low SWaP architectures to improve or maintain persistence on power source
  • Experience with microcontrollers (C++, microPython, circuitPython, standard Python) for interfacing with sensors, relays, etc.
  • Knowledge of renewables and integration of various technologies to improve system performance
  • Familiarity with marine connectors and knowledge of electrical systems in highly corrosive environments
  • Experience developing system-level electrical architecture with minimal oversight
  • Knowledge of standard RF principles
  • Self-starter who will attack problems and is capable of identifying problems, developing solutions, and troubleshooting systems independently
