An MEP Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical systems within building projects, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with regulations.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the role based on current industry standards:

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  • Prepare and review electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications in coordination with other MEP disciplines.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Conduct load calculations, fault analysis, and energy efficiency assessments.
  • Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, and contractors to integrate electrical systems seamlessly.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, and emergency systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during construction and post-installation phases.
  • Prepare cost estimates, material specifications, and procurement schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in MEP electrical design and site execution.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and electrical design software.
  • Strong understanding of building codes (e.g., NEC, IEC) and safety regulations.
  • Experience with sustainable design and energy-efficient systems is a plus.
