Electrical Engineer – Oil & Gas
Core Responsibilities
1. Engineering Design & Development
- Develop electrical system designs for LV, MV, and HV power distribution systems.
- Prepare single line diagrams (SLD), load lists, cable schedules, and equipment layouts.
- Design and specify:
- Transformers
- Switchgear (AIS/GIS)
- Motor Control Centers (MCC)
- VFDs and soft starters
- UPS and battery systems
- Perform short circuit, load flow, and protection coordination studies using ETAP or equivalent software.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NEC, API, and local authority regulations.
2. Hazardous Area & Safety Compliance
- Design electrical systems for hazardous areas (Zone 0, 1, 2 / Class I Div 1 & 2).
- Select and verify explosion-proof (Ex) equipment.
- Conduct grounding and lightning protection system design.
- Ensure compliance with standards such as:
- IEC 60079
- API RP 500/505
- NFPA 70
3. Project Engineering & Execution
- Participate in FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and detailed engineering phases.
- Review vendor drawings and technical submittals.
- Coordinate with mechanical, instrumentation, and process engineering teams.
- Support procurement activities including technical bid evaluations.
- Monitor site installation activities and ensure adherence to IFC drawings.
4. Installation & Commissioning
- Supervise installation of:
- Power distribution panels
- Cable trays and cable pulling
- Earthing systems
- Lighting systems (industrial & hazardous areas)
- Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Perform pre-commissioning and commissioning of electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during startup.
5. Maintenance & Reliability
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) of electrical failures.
- Ensure reliability of motors, generators, transformers, and switchgear.
- Monitor power quality and energy efficiency improvements.
- Maintain documentation and update as-built drawings.
6. Operations Support
- Provide technical support during plant shutdowns and turnarounds.
- Conduct risk assessments and electrical safety audits.
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards and permit-to-work systems.
- Support emergency power and backup systems.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare technical reports, method statements, and procedures.
- Maintain equipment datasheets and maintenance logs.
- Interface with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
- Prepare project progress and cost control reports.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Sc. / B.Eng.) from a recognized university.
- Master’s Degree in Power Systems or Energy Engineering (preferred for senior roles).
- Professional registration (preferred):
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) or equivalent body
- 10+ years of experience in oil & gas projects.
- Proven experience handling large-scale power distribution systems.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and vendor management.
Familiarity with standards:
- IEC
- IEEE
- NFPA
- API
- NEC
- ETAP / SKM
- AutoCAD / EPLAN
- Dialux
- Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems.

Pay: Up to QAR10,000.00 per month
