Job Summary

The Electrical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance of MV & HV substations and associated electrical systems to ensure safe, reliable, and continuous operation . The role covers troubleshooting, inspections, testing, switching support, and coordination with operations and contractors while maintaining compliance with safety standards and utility requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for MV/HV substation assets including:
  • power transformers, switchgear (AIS/GIS), circuit breakers, disconnectors, busbars, CTs/VTs, surge arresters, capacitor banks, batteries/chargers, and control/relay panels .
  • Conduct routine inspections , condition assessments, and equipment health checks (thermal/visual/mechanical).
  • Execute testing activities such as:
  • Insulation resistance (IR), PI , contact resistance (where applicable)
  • CT/VT checks , secondary injection support
  • Functional checks for interlocks, annunciation, SCADA/RTU signals, alarms , and protections
  • Troubleshoot faults on protection relays, control circuits, and HV/MV equipment , identify root cause, and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Support switching and isolation activities (LOTO), permit-to-work processes, and safe energization/de-energization plans.
  • Coordinate with contractors for specialized works (oil testing, SF6 handling, relay testing, cable fault location), ensuring scope, quality, and HSE compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE policies , risk assessments, method statements, and relevant standards (IEC/IEEE/utility requirements).
  • Recommend improvements for reliability (RCM actions), spare parts planning, and maintenance optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering .
  • 3–8+ years in substation maintenance (MV/HV) or utility/industrial power systems.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems , substation equipment , and protection & control (P&C) basics.
  • Familiar with maintenance procedures , testing practices, and safety regulations.
  • Good documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
