Electrical Service Technician

The Electrical Service Technician is responsible for advanced electrical troubleshooting, repair, installation, and preventive maintenance while supervising electricians and apprentices.

This role combines hands‑on technical expertise with leadership, project coordination, customer service, and administrative oversight for service work and special projects up to $100,000.

The requirements listed below are indicative of knowledge, skills and abilities desired (not required):

· Troubleshoot, diagnose, test, and repair electrical systems including lighting, power, emergency power systems, switchgear, transformers, motors, motor controls, relays, PLCs, VFDs, industrial machinery, control circuits, and data/low‑voltage systems.

· Install and modify power distribution systems, transformers, industrial controls, VFDs, machinery, and associated electrical systems.

· Perform industrial control circuit revisions and system upgrades.

· Conduct testing and troubleshooting using diagnostic tools such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, meggers, and other test equipment.

· Perform scheduled and corrective preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and code compliance.

  • Troubleshoot, test, and install data cabling.

· Plan, schedule, assign, participate in, and inspect the work of electricians and apprentices on service calls and special projects.

· Supervise and inspect workmanship to ensure safety, quality, and compliance with applicable codes and specifications.

· Train, coach, and mentor employees in electrical methods, equipment operation, safety procedures, and company policies.

· Identify employee development needs and support skill and knowledge growth.

· Build and lead teams by setting goals, prioritizing work, and encouraging collaboration, trust, and accountability.

· Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and submittals to determine project requirements and plan work procedures.

· Translate technical information for team members to ensure proper execution.

· Coordinate activities with the Service Manager, Project Managers, Estimators, Customers, and other contractors to resolve issues and maintain schedules.

· Deliver excellent customer service and maintain professional client relationships.

· Handle customer concerns, complaints, disputes, and conflict resolution as needed.

· Accurately record and track labor, material usage, personnel activity, and operational data on a daily basis.

· Order or requisition materials, tools, and equipment as required.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked service vehicle to support efficient service operations.

· Ability to work independently or as part of a team depending on job requirements.

· Participate in an after‑hours emergency on‑call rotation.

Essential Duty Requirements

  • Ability to communicate is perhaps the most important skill that a Service Technician requires. You need to transmit information and instructions in a clear and effective manner to people who may not understand due to experience or educational differences. Ensuring that the person you are talking to fully understands what you are saying is a vital skill.
  • Work independently and confidently daily.
  • Be able to keep track of multiple jobs at one time.
  • Time management and record keeping.
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools of the electrical trade.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work and demonstrable commitment to safety.
  • Ability to supervise the work of skilled workers and Apprentices.
  • Considerable knowledge of the National Electrical Code for electrical installations.
  • Ability to interpret and work from instructions, penciled plans and sketches, submittals, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Ability to estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining labor, time, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
  • Flexibility, able to adapt and comply with Company/Client requirements.
  • General understanding of other trades to coordinate/schedule installation of electrical work.
  • Ability to work with and interact with other trades.
  • Has a desire to learn and develop within the role.

Service Technician Requirements:

· Electrical Journeyman License preferred, Master’s license preferred

· Driver’s license and DOT Medical Certificate (able to acquire)

· Journeymen and Apprentices report to the Service Technician.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
