- Install, connect, configure electrical components (wiring, switches, outlets, control panels, motors, transformers, etc.).
- Mount and secure electrical equipment such as conduit, subpanels, fixtures.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals to guide installations.
- Inspect, test, and diagnose electrical issues (faulty wiring, components, circuits) using diagnostic tools (voltmeters, ammeters, etc.).
- Repair or replace defective components (switches, relays, motors, wiring) and ensure proper functioning.
- Adhere to safety standards and codes (local electrical codes, OSHA or equivalent, lock-out/tag-out, etc.).
- Identify hazards, ensure safe working environments, use proper protective equipment.
- Ensure work is compliant with regulatory, environmental, and quality standards.
- Diagnose problems in electrical systems and determine root causes.
- Use test instruments, measurement tools, and possibly software to locate issues.
- Provide corrective actions, repairs or modifications.
- Commission new installations and ensure they meet performance specs.
- Conduct testing of systems (e.g. continuity, insulation resistance, voltage, current, etc.).
- Maintain service and repair records, log work done, parts used.
- Prepare reports (fault reports, maintenance schedules, suggestions for improvements).
- Work with other technicians, engineers, contractors, and sometimes clients.
- Help during project planning, installation phases, or modifications.
- Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and electrical practices.
- Suggest improvements to increase reliability, safety, and efficiency.
