Role Overview:
Responsible for performing all cable termination and glanding activities for electrical and instrumentation systems within the new shipyard development project. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of power, control, and instrumentation cabling in accordance with project drawings, standards, and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cable Preparation and Installation
· Prepare, route, and dress cables (LV/MV/Control/Instrumentation) according to cable schedules and layout drawings.
· Measure and cut cables to the required length for termination and glanding.
· Ensure cable identification and tagging as per project specifications.
2. Glanding & Termination Work
· Perform proper glanding (brass, nickel-plated, or explosion-proof glands) for armored and non-armored cables.
· Carry out termination of power, control, and instrumentation cables (up to specified voltage levels).
· Terminate cables at switchboards, panels, junction boxes, motors, field instruments, and lighting fixtures.
· Crimp, solder, or lug conductors as required by specification.
· Ensure correct torque and tightness on terminal connections.
3. Quality & Compliance
· Follow electrical installation standards such as IEC, NEC, or shipyard-specific standards.
· Perform continuity and insulation resistance tests before and after termination.
· Report any cable damage or discrepancies to the supervisor immediately.
· Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas.
4. Documentation & Reporting
· Update cable termination records and test reports.
· Support the QA/QC team during inspection and testing activities.
· Assist in punch list clearance and pre-commissioning activities.
5. Safety
· Comply with all shipyard HSE procedures and safety practices.
· Use appropriate PPE and tools for hazardous or confined space environments.
· Identify and report unsafe conditions, potential hazards, or near misses.
Candidate Profile:
· ITI / Diploma in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent.
· 3–5 years of experience in cable termination and glanding work.
· Experience in industrial / marine / shipyard / oil & gas construction projects preferred.
· Proficient in LV/MV power cable and control cable terminations.
· Knowledge of various gland types (E1W, CW, BW, A2, etc.) and termination standards.
· Able to read and interpret electrical drawings, cable schedules, and termination diagrams.
· Familiar with tools such as torque wrenches, crimping tools, and insulation testers (Megger).
· Capable of working in confined spaces and at heights.
· Ability to lift and handle cables and equipment up to project-specified weight limits.
· Fit for outdoor work in shipyard environmental conditions (humidity, noise, etc.).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: AED1,800.00 - AED2,300.00 per month
