Electrician

Post Title: Electrician

Reporting To: Assistant Estates Manager

Department: Estates

Hours: 40 Hours per week but part-time and flexible working options will be considered

Summary of the Role

This is a hands-on position where you will be responsible for the full range of electrical work across the College, from routine maintenance and testing to fault-finding, repairs and new installations. The role requires someone who can work independently, prioritise their workload effectively, and respond promptly to urgent issues, while also collaborating closely with the wider Estates team and other departments. We are looking for a professional electrician who takes pride in their work, communicates effectively with colleagues and contractors at all levels, and understands the unique demands of working in a busy boarding school environment where safety, reliability and minimal disruption are paramount.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the electrical infrastructure at the College, making the most efficient use of the resources available to meet agreed deadlines and priorities
  • Ensure electrical installation work is completed to current industry standards
  • Liaising with colleagues and occupiers to resolve issues with access, efficient and safe working practice, ensuring high standards and customer satisfaction at all times
  • Ensure all plant and equipment is fully functional, appropriately maintained and certified, with defects reported and waste materials disposed of correctly
  • Ensure all test equipment is fully functional and checked appropriately
  • Contributing to and taking responsibility for College oversight of selected projects, working with the Maintenance Team and dealing with contractors
  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with Health and Safety regulations
  • Any other ad hoc duties as requested by the management of Shiplake College

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Level 3 Electrical Installation qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2365, or equivalent modern qualification)
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • Valid JIB Grading (desirable) Knowledge and Experience
  • Strong electrical background within commercial and domestic settings
  • Health and Safety qualification (desirable)
  • Portable Appliance Testing (desirable)
  • Experience with door entry and alarms (desirable)
