Job Purpose
Electricians play an essential role within an enthusiastic and innovative direct labour organisation (DLO), delivering reactive maintenance activities, planned preventative maintenance, fault finding, and out-of-hours support for all electrical operations and systems across the Estate.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesMain duties-
Undertake adaption/repair and reactive, planned, and preventative maintenance work, including systems checks and when necessary, problem diagnostics, on electrical services and equipment across the University’s estate in compliance with current IET Wiring and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

To carry out testing on fire alarm, emergency lighting installations and any other low voltage wiring systems.

Act as a competent person for electrical isolations and de-isolations.

You will be part of a mandatory out of hours 1 week in 5 ‘on-call’ rota

To undertake first response fault finding and provide clear updates on remedial works for installations including but not limited to:-
-
fire alarm equipment,
-
emergency lighting,
-
building management system (BeMS) wiring,
-
boiler controls,
-
motors and motor controls,
-
variable speed devices,
-
ventilation system wiring,
-
generators supply
-
any other low or extra low voltage equipment.

To be able to trace faults on control panels and associated equipment, working with Building Services Engineers to rectify faults.

Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures. Undertaking task specific (dynamic) risk assessments and method statements, before carrying out maintenance and adaptation work, reporting any potentially unsafe working conditions.

Ensure all necessary paperwork required both manually or electronically is completed accurately and in a timely manner in line with set timescales (Service Level Agreements).

To attend, as identified and by agreement, development, and training courses to keep abreast of new industry best practice and statutory regulations.

On behalf of the University to act as a competent person for all works defined in and associated with Safe Systems of Work, including but not withstanding fire alarm and electrical isolation and de isolations.

Establish working relationships with key customers to help improve service levels, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Departments and outside bodies as required.

Assist with managing critical and essential material stock levels. Maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles, taking responsibility for the safe keeping of these.
