Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Engineering & Facilities Maintenance Unit under Supply Chain Management and Service Delivery Unit in the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), Islamabad. The incumbent will perform the duties under the direct supervision of the Engineering & Facilities Maintenance Unit supervisor and overall supervision of the Chief Supply Chain and Service Delivery Unit. Within delegated authority, the Electrician will be responsible for the following duties:
Responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities: Operations: o Assist with the installation, service and maintenance in compliance with Local and International IEC standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation codes of all types for low-voltage interior and exterior electrical systems, components and equipment including electrical circuits, distribution panels, conduits, light fixtures, appliances, control devices, fire alarms, electrical motors and pumps, diesel generators, solar panels, inverters, batteries, uninterruptible power supply systems, and substation power distribution networks. o Diagnose and resolve electrical faults and operational issues. o Install, maintains and repairs complete power distribution systems including conductors, distribution of main and sub panels, earth connections, switchgear, circuit breakers, coaxial communication circuits, fiber-optic systems, and street lightning. o Provide electrical support for heating, ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as for elevator/lift electrical mechanisms, where required. o Install, maintains and repairs electric motors, pumps, switchgear, and electric control devices. o Perform routine diagnostics, conducts preventive and corrective maintenance of all types of electrical service devices, programmable logic controllers and digital solid-state control devices. o Support the maintenance of diesel generators, solar power systems, UPS systems, HVAC units, and elevators. o Operates a wide variety of tools and power equipment including saws, drills, common workshop machinery, voltage testers, ohmmeters, multimeters, oscilloscopes, soldering equipment and other tools and equipment of the trade. o Work from various manuals, blueprints, specifications, shop/building drawings and sketches and electrical schematics. Administration: o Enforce safety programs related to the safe operation of electrical installations. o Assist the supervising electrician in assessing installation, repair and maintenance requirements, and prepares related work-orders. o Assist the supervisor in developing draft proposals for electrical installation projects, including preparation of drawings, technical specification, bills of quantities (BOQs), and cost estimates. o Participate in the preparation of cost estimates for annual budgets and spending plans related to the Unit accounts. o Prepare yearly budget estimates and monthly tables of prorated electrical charges for common services, and monthly/yearly electricity consumption and expenditure tables as well as charts of expenses. o Prepare requisitions for procurement of supplies, electrical materials, equipment, cable, distribution panels, spares, etc. Reviews and evaluates offers and coordinates with Procurement unit. o Maintain liaison with local contractors and suppliers concerning the provision of supplies and services. o Perform other duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job - Specific Qualification
A technical or vocational certificate in Electrical Engineering is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven (07) years of progressively responsible experience within the United Nations system or in the private sector at the national or international level in Electrical Engineering is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a First-level university degree or higher. Experience in conducting preventive and corrective maintenance activities for HVAC systems, solar panels, diesel generators, and elevators is desirable. Experience in assisting with the procurement of goods and services, including drafting the requirements in form of specifications, scope of works, and technical evaluation criteria is desirable. Experience in the use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as Umoja/SAP is desirable. Working experience of MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable.
