What you’ll do at DBH:

The Electronic Design Specialist plays a key role in supporting the Department's visual communication, digital media, and branding efforts. This position creates a wide range of digital, print, video, and online materials that help communicate important information to both internal and external audiences. The specialist works closely with teams across the agency to ensure consistent, high‑quality visuals that align with state branding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and produce graphics, layouts, and visual materials for websites, presentations, events, newsletters, reports, and other communication needs.
  • Produce print materials such as brochures, posters, fact sheets, flyers, signage, slide decks, booklets, and promotional items.
  • Develop visual concepts and multimedia content for online communications, including news releases, educational updates, seminar announcements, and employee newsletters.
  • Work with IT staff to publish online materials, test web pages, and ensure content functions correctly.
  • Shoot and edit video content using digital, non-linear editing systems; create video graphics, animations, and final video products for agency programs.
  • Capture photos and videos for agency use as needed.
  • Serve as the primary designer and project manager for the agency’s annual report.
  • Provide guidance to staff on best practices for visual communication, layout, design, branding, and multimedia production.
  • Collaborate with editorial, marketing, and program staff to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to branding standards.

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 32 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours may vary).

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications

36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in electronic graphic design; 12 mos. exp. with hyper-text markup language for website/web page design &/or development.

  • Or completion of associate core program in graphic visual communication technology or multimedia production technology; 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in website/web page creation, design &/or development.

  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in visual communications with emphasis on graphic design/industrial design &/or fine arts; 24 mos. trg. or 24 mos. exp. in website/web page creation, design &./or development.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
