Electronics Recycling Technician

Job Overview: Electronic Recycling Technician

An Electronic Recycling Technician is responsible for the safe handling, dismantling, testing, and recycling of electronic devices and components while supporting shipping and receiving operations. This role plays an important part in recovering valuable materials, ensuring data security, and promoting environmental sustainability through responsible electronic waste management.

Technicians inspect and sort incoming electronic equipment, safely disassemble devices to separate reusable parts and recyclable materials, and prepare outgoing shipments of processed materials or refurbished products. They may also assist with testing and refurbishing electronic components, performing data destruction, and maintaining accurate inventory records.

The position requires mechanical aptitude, physical stamina, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, and identify various types of electronic equipment and components.
  • Safely load and unload shipments of electronics, parts, and recycled materials.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving tasks, including labeling, packing, and documentation.
  • Dismantle electronic devices (computers, printers, circuit boards, etc.) to recover reusable materials.
  • Test, repair, or refurbish electronic components as needed.
  • Perform secure data destruction on storage devices (hard drives, SSDs, etc.).
  • Operate recycling and material-handling equipment safely (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, power tools, shredders).
  • Track and record incoming and outgoing materials according to company procedures.
  • Follow all environmental, safety, and hazardous waste handling regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical or vocational training preferred).
  • Experience in electronics recycling, warehouse operations, or shipping and receiving is a plus.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and material-handling equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and environmental responsibility.

Preferred qualifications

  • Certification or training in electronics technology or a related field is advantageous.
  • Previous experience operating sanitation vehicles such as garbage trucks or roll-off trucks.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks safely and efficiently.
