ELV Technician - Hospital background
Key Responsibilities:
- ELV System Installation & Maintenance:
- Install, test, and maintain Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems, including CCTV systems, access control systems, fire alarm systems, nurse call systems, and public address systems.
- Ensure proper installation and maintenance of structured cabling for data, voice, and video systems used in hospital facilities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with electrical, communication, and security systems efficiently to minimize downtime in hospital operations.
- System Troubleshooting & Repair:
- Identify, diagnose, and repair faults in ELV systems, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital functions.
- Respond to emergency repairs and ensure all critical systems (e.g., fire alarms, emergency communication) are always operational.
- Provide technical support for systems integration, ensuring seamless functionality across different ELV components.
- Compliance & Standards:
- Ensure all ELV installations and maintenance comply with hospital regulations, local electrical codes, health and safety standards, and fire safety regulations.
- Follow hospital-grade electrical and safety protocols to maintain patient safety and minimize risks.
- Keep up to date with relevant industry standards, including those related to security, communication, and fire safety systems in healthcare settings.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive records of all system installations, maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Complete work orders, service reports, and maintenance logs for ELV systems, ensuring that all activities are properly documented and aligned with hospital standards.
- Generate reports on system performance, identifying areas for improvement or preventive maintenance.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with hospital facilities management, IT departments, and other teams to ensure ELV systems meet the needs of hospital operations.
- Communicate effectively with hospital staff to resolve ELV system-related issues quickly and efficiently.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced team members and assist in troubleshooting and repairs.
- Training & Development:
- Stay current with new technologies and industry trends in ELV systems.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, and seminars to further develop expertise and maintain certifications.
- Provide training to hospital staff and new hires on the proper use and maintenance of ELV systems.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with ELV systems in a hospital or healthcare environment.
- Diploma or Certification in Electrical Engineering, ELV Systems, Telecommunications, or a related field (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC in Electrical or ELV systems).
- Demonstrated experience with fire alarm systems, CCTV, access control, nurse call systems, and public address systems within healthcare settings.
- Certifications & Training:
- ELV-related certifications, such as CCTV installer, Access Control technician, Fire Alarm Technician, or any similar industry-recognized certification.
- First Aid and Health & Safety certifications (desirable).
- Familiarity with Hospital-grade electrical systems and specific healthcare codes (e.g., NFPA, NFPA 99, HTM 08-03, etc.).
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of ELV systems, including the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of security, communication, and fire systems.
- Excellent understanding of structured cabling, networking, and integration of multiple systems within hospital environments.
- In-depth knowledge of hospital compliance standards, fire safety regulations, and electrical codes.
- Proficiency in testing and diagnostic tools for ELV systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
