Role Summary
The Emergency Medicine Physician will provide comprehensive emergency care for patients of all ages in a 24/7 Emergency Department. This role includes rapid assessment, stabilization, treatment, and disposition of a wide range of medical, surgical, cardiac, neurologic, and trauma presentations. The physician will work closely with nursing, advanced practice providers, and ancillary staff to deliver safe, high-quality care and coordinate transfers when higher levels of care are required.
Core Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and emergent conditions for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in the Emergency Department
- Lead initial stabilization and resuscitation of critically ill or injured patients, including airway management and hemodynamic support
- Manage common emergency presentations, including trauma, stroke, chest pain, respiratory distress, sepsis, abdominal pain, behavioral health emergencies, and minor injuries
- Perform ED procedures such as laceration repair, fracture and dislocation reduction, procedural sedation, intubation, central and peripheral line placement, and other procedures as credentialed
- Determine appropriate disposition (admission, transfer, or discharge) and coordinate safe handoffs to inpatient teams or receiving facilities
- Utilize evidence-based protocols and order sets to support quality and regulatory standards
- Complete timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
- Participate in Emergency Department quality improvement, case review, and performance initiatives
- Collaborate with hospital leadership and ED staff to support patient flow, safety, and a positive work environment
Must-Have Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited Emergency Medicine residency or equivalent training with substantial Emergency Department experience
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine within an agreed-upon timeframe
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Washington and DEA registration
- Current ACLS and PALS (or equivalents); ATLS required or obtainable within a defined period
- Minimum of one year of independent Emergency Department practice post-residency
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-acuity cases, including trauma, stroke, and cardiac emergencies
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with a commitment to patient-centered care
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a rural or critical access hospital Emergency Department setting
- Experience coordinating transfers to higher-level trauma or specialty centers
- Proficiency with point-of-care ultrasound in the Emergency Department
- Participation in quality improvement, patient safety, or ED operations projects
- Comfort using telemedicine or remote specialty consultation platforms
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $150.00 - $170.00 per hour
