The Emergency Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering prompt, efficient, and quality nursing care to patients arriving in the Emergency Department, ensuring stabilization, triage, and emergency management as per hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care & Clinical Duties

  • Perform rapid assessment and triage of incoming patients using Emergency Triage protocols.
  • Provide immediate life-saving interventions (e.g., CPR, basic & advanced life support under supervision).
  • Assist doctors in emergency procedures like intubation, catheterization, cannulation, suturing, and wound care.
  • Monitor vital signs and ensure accurate and timely documentation.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, and pain management.
  • Manage critically ill trauma patients, cardiac emergencies, poisoning cases, stroke, and other acute conditions.
  • Prepare and maintain emergency crash cart, defibrillator, and life-support equipment.
  • Ensure infection control practices and patient safety at all times.

2. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with Emergency Medical Officers, paramedical staff, and support teams.
  • Facilitate smooth patient transfer to ICU, wards, OTs, or other healthcare facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with patient attendants and provide counseling regarding patient condition when required.

3. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain emergency case sheets, drug administration records, and shift handover details.
  • Report medico-legal cases as per hospital policies.
  • Record and track consumption of emergency drugs and disposables.

4. Emergency Preparedness

  • Participate in disaster drills and mass casualty management.
  • Stay updated with BLS/ACLS protocols and attend regular emergency training.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of emergency protocols, equipment, and medications.
  • Empathy and patient-centered care approach.

Qualifications

  • GNM / B.Sc. Nursing with valid Nursing Council Registration.
  • Certification in BLS mandatory; ACLS preferred.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in Emergency / ICU preferred.

Work Conditions

  • Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fast-paced, high-risk clinical environment.
