Position Summary
The Endoscopy Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. The role includes patient preparation, assisting the physician during procedures, monitoring patient safety, and providing post-procedure care and education.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Procedure Care
- Conduct patient assessment, including medical history, allergies, and readiness for the procedure.
- Provide patient teaching regarding the procedure, preparation, and post-procedure expectations.
- Ensure informed consent has been obtained.
- Prepare procedure rooms and equipment in accordance with infection control standards.
2. Intra-Procedure Support
- Assist the physician during endoscopic procedures (e.g., gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, bronchoscopy).
- Monitor vital signs and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
- Administer sedation medications as per hospital policy and physician orders (if credentialed).
- Maintain sterile techniques and ensure safe handling of instruments and specimens.
3. Post-Procedure Care
- Provide post-anesthesia and post-sedation monitoring.
- Assess patient condition and manage post-procedure symptoms.
- Give discharge instructions and patient education.
- Document all aspects of care in accordance with hospital standards.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid Nursing License (DHP/DOH/MOH or equivalent as required).
- BLS certification (mandatory).
- ACLS certification (preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience.
- Experience in Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, or Operating Room nursing preferred.

- Strong knowledge of endoscopic procedures and equipment.
- Ability to manage sedation safely.
- Excellent assessment and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong communication and patient education abilities.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle emergencies.
Work Conditions
- Exposure to biohazards, sedation agents, and procedure-related risks.
- Rotational shifts, including weekends or on-call duties as required.
