About the Role

The Energy Analyst is a key member of the on‑account Energy & Sustainability team, serving as the in‑house expert and administrator for CBRE’s utility bill payment platform. In this role, you will manage the end‑to‑end utility billing process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with client and regulatory requirements.

You’ll act as the central liaison between the bill‑payment vendor’s account manager, CBRE E&S leadership, facility coordinators, lease administrators, and the utility procurement team to keep information flowing efficiently and issues resolved quickly.

This role will be located in the Austin, TX market. Some travel may be required.

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate regularly with utilities, finance teams, facility contacts, AR personnel, and the utility bill‑payment vendor to ensure smooth communication and issue resolution.
  • Set up and onboard new sites—including merger and acquisition locations—into the utility portal and tracking system, while removing exited sites to prevent unnecessary charges.
  • Lead the integration of new utility accounts into the bill‑pay tool, ensure accurate GL coding, and route utility refund checks to the appropriate business units.
  • Provide ad hoc utility reports, manage system user updates, and handle miscellaneous internal requests such as supplying bill copies and other utility‑related support tasks.
  • Investigate and resolve account exceptions and site‑level utility payment issues by coordinating with utilities, finance teams, site contacts, and the bill‑payment vendor.
  • Lead utility account actions—including registrations, shutoffs, deposit checks, and credit references—and respond promptly to emergency shutoff notices, including occasional off‑hours needs.
  • Prepare monthly variance and energy service reports, analyze utility rates, and maintain utility bill data to identify trends, discrepancies, and consumption variances.
  • Support sustainability reporting by calculating GHG emissions, contributing to carbon, renewable energy, waste, and offset documentation, and developing site‑level energy and water profiles.
  • Maintain and report on energy, water, and waste performance metrics, leveraging industry tools such as ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred with 3-5 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered. CEM and LEED accreditation preferred, training and accreditation part of development and performance management requirements.
  • Understanding of existing procedures and standards to solve slightly complex problems.
  • Ability to analyze possible solutions using technical experience to apply appropriate judgment and precedents.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mentality.
  • Sophisticated math skills. Ability to calculate mildly complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
