Engine Boss- Wild Land Fire

Job Summary

Join our 30+ year wild land firefighting team as an Engine Boss, a pivotal leadership role responsible for directing fire suppression operations on wild land fires. As an Engine Boss, you will oversee the safe and effective deployment of firefighting crews and equipment, coordinate with incident command teams, and ensure adherence to safety protocols. This energetic position demands a grounded approach to wildfire management, environmental protection, and emergency response, empowering you to make a tangible impact in protecting communities and natural resources.

Duties

• Lead and supervise your 3 person crew during wild land fire suppression efforts, ensuring safety and operational efficiency.
• Operate and maintain fire apparatus and specialized firefighting equipment, including pumps, hoses, and mechanical tools.
• Implement fire suppression strategies based on current fire behavior, weather conditions, and environmental considerations.
• Coordinate with incident command teams to develop action plans and communicate critical information effectively.
• Conduct hazard assessments and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate actively in Initial Attack response calls.
• Support Forest Service wildland practices and protocols.

Requirements

• Single Resource (Engine Boss) certification.
• Valid 2026 Annual Wildland certifications.
• Knowledge of Wildfire in the Pacific Northwest.
• Ability to operate fire apparatus safely under demanding conditions; commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
• Familiarity with incident command systems (ICS), NFPA standards, and environmental protection practices related to wild land fires.
• Mechanical aptitude with knowledge of firefighting equipment (F Series Super Duty)
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and incident command; ability to work effectively under stress in high-pressure situations.
• Physical fitness capable of performing strenuous tasks such as hiking, prolonged standing, and navigating rugged terrain.
