Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Engine Overhaul Supervisor is to provide expert technical supervision and guidance to the maintenance team, ensuring strict compliance with all engineering standards, documentation, and safety protocols during the major overhauling, troubleshooting, and maintenance of CAT and/or Medium Speed Marine Engines on client sites.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Supervision, Planning, and Coordination
- Planning and coordinating the work of other engineers and technicians for engine overhaul projects.
- Overseeing and conducting preventative, corrective, troubleshooting, and full major overhaul maintenance activities on assigned engines.
- Interfacing with technical teams for equipment installation, testing, and other engineering tasks as needed at client sites.
- Tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the function and devising initiatives for operational improvements in engine maintenance efficiency.
Technical Compliance and Documentation
- Ensuring compliance with engineering documentation standards, system specifications, and test procedures, specifically for engine overhaul activities.
- Providing technical data and evaluations for engine components that align with engineering plans and contract requirements.
- Investigating and identifying technical causes of engine failure and proposing immediate corrective/preventive actions.
- Completing and implementing all required documentation to support the workshop activities, including damage reports, repair procedures, quality tests and results, and completion reports.
Resource and Regulatory Management
- Ensuring that systems and equipment meet all statutory and regulatory certifications and client requirements, especially concerning marine classification standards.
- Managing the inventory of necessary supplies, spare parts, and tools required for overhauling operations.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
Degree in Engineering Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in the engineering sector, with a minimum of 5 years in an operational or technical superintendent role, focused on site supervision and marine engine maintenance.
Engine Expertise (Mandatory)
Crucially, must possess Marine Engine Experience. Must be specialized as either: A) CAT Engine Specialist: Proficient in 3516, 3512, 3412, 3408, C32, etc., with 6+ years dealer experience. B) Medium Speed Engine Specialist: Proficient in MAK, NIIGATA, YANMAR, DAIHATSU, with proven marine authorized servicing experience.
Technical Skills (CAT Specific)
Must be proficient in using CAT Electronic Technician (ET) for troubleshooting and Service Information System (SIS) for parts list preparation.
Excellent leadership, crisis management, interpersonal, communications, and management skills. Ability to act quickly and decisively under pressure.
