Scope of Responsibility:

We are seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer I to join a multi-disciplined engineering team—including civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines—supporting the design, development, and implementation of modular infrastructure used in the Data Center, Utility, Fiber, and Telecommunications industries. This entry-level role supports the design of foundations, structural framing, concrete enclosures, equipment mounting, lifting/rigging points, site considerations, and environmental load evaluations. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the desire to grow technical capability within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties:

Technical Competencies

  • Structural Analysis Fundamentals
    • Basic understanding of structural analysis, load paths, and material behavior.
    • Exposure to analysis of steel frames, platforms, equipment supports, and modular assemblies.
  • Design for Modular Structures
    • Assists with design of skid frames, structural enclosures, lifting points, and mounting systems.
    • Learns design considerations for shipping, handling, seismic, wind, and environmental loads.
  • Foundations & Site Considerations
    • Exposure to concrete pad design, anchorage, embedment, and basic geotechnical concepts.
    • Familiarity with site layout constraints for modular installations (access, clearances, utilities).
  • Drafting & Documentation
    • Ability to interpret and assist in developing 2D/3D structural drawings, details, and BOMs.
    • Supports creation of structural details, welding symbols, and dimensioning.
  • Material Selection
    • Basic knowledge of steel shapes, sheet metal, concrete, and coatings associated with outdoor or industrial environments.
  • Codes & Standards Awareness
    • Foundational knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, and applicable state/local requirements.
    • Awareness of design considerations for data centers, telecom shelters, and utility equipment.
  • Manufacturing & Fabrication Understanding
    • Familiarity with welding, cutting, drilling, tolerances, and fit-up considerations.
    • Supports manufacturability reviews and communicates with shop teams.

Professional Competencies

  • Analytical Problem-Solving: Applies engineering principles to solve design challenges with supervision.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with engineers across mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural disciplines.
  • Communication: Provides clear drawing markups, design notes, and documentation.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in calculations, data, and design documentation.
  • Learning Mindset: Shows initiative in developing technical and industry knowledge.

Design & Analysis

  • Assist in designing structural framing, lifting points, mounting supports, platforms, and skids used in modular infrastructure.
  • Perform basic calculations such as member sizing, connection loads, wind/seismic checks, and equipment mounting loads.
  • Support site-related design needs including foundation layout, anchor bolt patterns, and installation considerations.

Documentation & Drafting Collaboration

  • Work with drafters to develop structural drawings, assembly details, fabrication drawings, and BOMs.
  • Produce redlines, markups, and revisions for structural design packages.
  • Maintain drawing accuracy and ensure designs conform to internal standards.

Project Support & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Participate in design reviews with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure coordinated and manufacturable designs.
  • Support engineering change processes including redlines, ECOs, and as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate with vendors on component data, installation requirements, and structural interfaces.

Manufacturing, Testing & Field Support

  • Support shop fabrication by answering structural design questions and resolving issues.
  • Assist with structural inspections, lifting/rigging observations, and assembly checks as needed.
  • Provide engineering support during installation or commissioning activities under senior engineer direction.

Compliance, Safety & Quality

  • Apply relevant building codes and structural standards to design work with guidance.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality in all engineering deliverables.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts such as expanding design libraries, templates, and checklists.

Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline required.

Experience: 0–2 years of relevant experience (internships, co-ops, or project-based experience encouraged).

  • Exposure to steel structures, concrete design, structural analysis software, or industrial environments is a plus.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and construction/fabrication details is beneficial.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with structural analysis tools (e.g., STAAD, RISA, SAP2000, or similar).
  • Proficient with MS Excel and ability to use for performing structural analysis.
  • Knowledge of welding practices, bolted connections, and fabrication processes.
  • Basic understanding of environmental loads (wind, seismic) and equipment anchorage.
  • Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, or similar)

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform work in any environment and various weather conditions such as rain, sleet, snow and extreme cold and heat.
  • Must be able to regularly use hands to grasp, pinch or pull materials.
